New Thread

Just a quick question, why is it as soon as you put up a new thread, before it has had time to settle into its slot, there is immediately 3 viewings? Are you moderators constantly on Red Alert ready to pounce to vet the content and delete quickly if not suitable, or just a marketing ploy to encourage other's to view ? :D

Ok .. thanks, think I understand  Thought somebody had an insight into my thoughts and knew I was getting ready to strike.

Stupid question, know if you go through a search engine and make a hit, the recipient is liable to a payment .. are you ? Or am I on the wrong thread ?

I've been avoiding the ads but knowing that Roy gets a tiny bit of cash from them I'm tempted to click on a few. If everyone did that each day it would benefit the site wouldn't it - every little counts!

Yeh, had thoughts like that myself Gayle, good idea, 'cept, as ladies of this town, had better be careful what we hit with some of the threads e.g. take care with the ones that Chav puts up, might get branded as some sort of porno :D

If you search google and find a site, then click on it, they don't get charged.
It's more than likely it's a glitch in the software to be honest, although I probably see your thread before you can see its posted, so it could be us, I'm waiting to pounce on your threads right now.

Could be search engine spiders, but unless you've constantly got spiders on here I doubt it. Spiders need to go through the same links that we do, and unless they're waiting to pounce on the menu, they won't find it till later, most will be mid page.

A spider is a computer than scans the content of each page and lists it on search engines kate. When it finds a link i can follow it, which is how they ususlly get on to a site. I've got my site address in my signature, and when the spider also called a search bot, gets to that link it can follow it and end up on my site.

The more links I put on good sites like this the higher my site will get listed on google.

Thanks Hatter understanding a little more now, just that, in business, if you wish to be on the front page of a search, they charge you more. i.e costs my company .45p each hit, 'cause they are on the first page.

Think I have been confusing it with this, rather than the search that brings up the links/adverts .. am I getting warmer ?

katex thats not strictly true.. yes if you pay they will put you up there... But you can be on the front page of a search without paying. Search "accrington" and my stanley site is top of 2.2 million pages... doesnt cost me a penny.. and lots of pages on my site come top when searching other club names because of the way i write the code and links :)

Cheers Kipax, will mention this to our Marketing Department, as seemed a little exorbitant to me .. you could easily bankcrupt a company if you wished I think.

Yep, just tried it ... you top of the pops Kipax. :da:

You sure they aren't paying a search engine optimisation company?
companies will get you to the top or try to if you pay them, they may then charge per hit, but I don't know how they would.
You'll never knock an established company off the top off google though, cos the older ones get better rankings.
Unless of course google make it fair.
