Wot! No EDIT button?

There is an EDIT button once you make your post but then after a while it disappears. Why?

Re: Wot! No EDIT button?

Edit button missing

This question was asked in an earlier thread and answered by Roy,Jambutty.I believe it was in the suggestions and feedback section:)

Re: Wot! No EDIT button?

I really don't mind either way. I would be good, if only to correct spelling mistakes. However, as stated in another thread, some people are abusing the "edit" system to make other people look foolish.

Re: Wot! No EDIT button?

I must try to check for typos before the edit option expires! :D

Are we still on red alert or have we moved to amber yet?

Re: Wot! No EDIT button?

Much obliged Less and mthead.

I didn’t see that thread.

However talking of missing buttons/links. What has happened to the report post link?

By the way WillowTheWhisp, I type my posts in Word so most spelling errors or typos are either corrected as I type or a highlighted to draw my attention to them. Good as the spelling checker on Word is it cannot differentiate between a wrongly spelled word if the result just happens to be a legitimate word so I still have to read through what I have typed. Even then I sometimes miss something and it only comes to light later on, even days later. An EDIT button would be useful in such cases.

But I take the point that some people ‘fiddle’ with their posts for reasons best known to themselves to make any responses appear stupid.

It takes all sorts I guess. Sad really!

Thanks Mick but Less has already pointed me in the right direction.

It's still there, perhaps you were looking at your own post at the time? (No, I'm not suggesting you were going to report yourself), your own posts are the only place the report button doesn't show.:p

Re: Wot! No EDIT button?

Thanks mick and Less I’ve spotted it now.

I guess I’m more senile than I thought.:not_ripe:

Re: Wot! No EDIT button?

Before you make a post, you can check the spelling by using the "Spell Check" feature on the new post box by pressing the button that looks like this: http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/i...r/spelling.gif

I think the edit post should be limited to 30 mins, then like Roy mentions no-one can make a post and then edit their first one making other replies look silly, like many people were doing. If people can't behave, they ruin it for the others.

Re: Wot! No EDIT button?

No there it is.

I've never noticed it before.

What a result.

garinda 30-10-2006 16:56

Re: Wot! No EDIT button?

You have to download it to use it.

garinda 30-10-2006 16:57

Re: Wot! No EDIT button?

It's good, but doesn't seem to correct your punctuation, just spelling.

Fab.:)

Where?
Where?Where?

Re: Wot! No EDIT button?

I have voted to bring it back. I don't use the edit function in a Machiavellian manner, for deceitful & perfidious purposes, unlike a certain member of Accyweb from the West Midlands. I use the edit function to cover my tracks with regards to my momentary lapses in the correct usage of the English language. :o

Question for Royski: Is it possible to switch off the edit function on a selective basis? If someone can prove that they can behave in an adult, responsible manner, then they have earned the right of use.

I've attached an image of the location of the spell check feature.

You have to install i-spell: ieSpell - Spell Checker add-on for Internet Explorer

Re: Wot! No EDIT button?

Or just use Firefox 2 which does spell checking for you as you type like Word does.
