Two separate quotes in one post.

Please, please oh wise ones out there, tell me how to get two separate quotes from two separate posts in a post I wish to post. Can obviously get one in, but not another. If you don't understand my question, will try and put it a little better... :D

entwisi 14-08-2007 18:10

Re: Two separate quotes in one post.

Easy, instead of just hitting the quote button type teh tags yourself. e.g. type a [ "followed by" QUOTE=whoever] and end what you want to quote with [ "followd by " /QUOTE] (Obviously remove teh "followed by" by I had to put in to stop it thinking I wanted to quote someone

You can cut n shut whatever you want in between e.g.

Just hit the quote button
and paste your text in the middle.

Then go back down to the next bit of text you want to quote, copy it, hit the quote button again and paste between the sticks again:)

you can leave in the =entwisi

as for grego, the second quote needs to be /quote

It needs to be square brackets, not round or curly

Would you not just repeat the process? Not sure, will have to try that next.

entwisi 14-08-2007 20:39

Re: Two separate quotes in one post.

I'll try and explain it is as simple as it gets, when I put something in ""'s just use teh text without the quotes i.e. ["sausages"] becomes [sausages]

to quote people you need your reply to include their text between two 'tags'. the first is a set of square brackets like this["quote=whoever"]. you can miss out the persons name and just have "quote" but its always better to say who you are quoting. after the text you want to quote you need to put an 'end tag' which is like this ["/quote"] . You shouldn't put the =name bit in teh end tag.

It's easy to get the first quote in - just use the quote button.

But before you do that go to the second quote that you want and highlight all the text then copy it. Go to the first quote and press the quote button and type your first comment then put your open quote marks then paste in your text and put your close quote marks.

Exactly. I was only teasing. I'm the first to ask if there's something I don't understand.

Talking of which... I couldn't sleep last night, wondering about rice. I know you plant it in paddy fields, but where does the actual rice come from? Does it grow under the water? Do you pick each little grain off the plant above the water? I need to know.

Like that you mean Kate?

I clicked quote on Daves original post, then selected it all and copied it. Next I pressed the back button and clicked quote on your post. Left click inside your quote after the first close square bracket but before your actual quote and paste in Daves quote.

Re: Two separate quotes in one post.

I'm going to follow up on this anyway, even though the above question was not answered because I shall presume this is what is meant. If not, then I can always do another instruction later.

Right, so if we just quote the whole post we get:
Quote:

Originally Posted by jackyalex (Post 536510)

I am presuming you wish to split that post into two seperate sections which you can post between.

So, how do we go about it?

Well first of all we pick up the whole quotation which gives you something like this in your text box:
How do you seperate one quote ? is it done the same as if you had 2 sepater quotes?
Then you copy the bit which says
and paste it at the point where you wish the first part of the quotation to end. Leave a little space and then copy the bit which says
and paste that.

Then in the space which you left between the
and the
you simply post what you want to say in response to the first bit.

I hope that answers the question and that it makes sense.

Or

You can quote the whole thing by going to the post and clicking the 'quote' button.

Then all of it shows as above.

You then

Copy the word(s) you require, click the quote button above, (if you hover your mouse pointer on the buttons above a description of it will appear) the button in this case is:-
http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/i...itor/quote.gif

left click it paste what you want in between the open and close [quotes] and you have two quotes.

:) Of course it would also help if you remember to put the person your quoting's name in it.
