Isn't the idea of the forum to be a social forum ?

As I recall most of Less's comments lately have been about newbies who complain about the forum as soon as they join.

Well said.

This forum has always been a place for fun threads, as well as debating more serious issues.

By the way Less is the biggest socialite going. He's always fondly harping back to when Accy Web was even more fun that it is now, so get used to it.

I suggest that if people don't like it, they don't have to come here.

Since this has turned into yet another moany old thread, I'll stick my two penn'orth in as well.

I'm board rigid with the recent cut and paste threads. You know the ones, paste a story, usually from the LET, and ask and 'what do you think?', with no input at all from the person who started the thread.

Shoddy, shoddy, shoddy, and I for one try never to post in them. I'm not naming the main culprit. He knows who he is, but I think this thread may infact be complaining about the recent threads started by himself that haven't received much attention, and even fewer posts in them.

Gosh, that feels so much better.

I suppose 'socialite' is another way of suggesting that there is some sort of Accy Web mafia. There isn't, and that's nonsense....as the Godfather of the mafia has stated many times before, when it's been raised.:D

I found AW just over two years ago, on a wild and wintry night. I didn't know anyone, but received a warm welcome, which is still the case.

I think my chief benefit was not coming on here and trying to change the forum into something else.

It is what it is, and I, amongst others, love it.:)

Royboy, if you think a post is going seriously off thread then you can report it to the mods and they will(in their wisdom) intervene...however, it is good to remember that normal conversation has a 'meandering' nature...often straying from the original topic....but seems to eventually get back in line......and as others have observed...you don't have to come here - and if you do truly, think the place is going down hill, then there ARE other forums you can register on.

Remember too......you can only change something by being part of it.

I saw the thread and thought it was going to be a serious debate about the India/Pakistan partition which is recognising (I use recognising rather than celebrating as some people don't feel it's celebratory) 60 years this year. Shame, that would have made quite an interesting 'serious' debate.

Perhaps, instead we should partition the poorer parts of Accy web off and see how they manage over the next 60 years.

So did I! A fascinating time in history. There was a really interesting programme on BBC2 last night about it.

That is my point exactly.

On the first part I would doubt anyone would want to discuss the ineptitude of the then government and it's representatives and the carnage that was caused by their decisions?

I'm not exactly sure what the point of this thread is.

This thread was posted in response to a verbal attack on a fellow member.
The partition I was referring to was to bring to light how birds of a feather stick together....and the attacks go on.
Partition I agree is normally used for the India/Pakistan separation but not in this case.
You will see examples of it in this thread.

There's a button at the top right hand side of all posts. It's a red triangle with an exclamation mark in it and it's available for anyone to use. You don't even have to have been here for years to have priveleges to use it.

Correction - i didnt leave because a nasty person - i have more backbone than that, i can deal with bullys, the truth is that quite a few of the newbies this year have spoilt the forum for their own end & that of others, they think they can rule the roost & over turn a whole forum by insulting & running this forum down which was totally spoiling it completely, causing a huge divide [as likes of threads like this is technically a them & us thing not saying u are personally doing as such] & systematically killing off the forum one by one with only one sole intention - to cure their own sad lives by feeding off fun by doing the above with regard for anyone else or the money invested in it ! Hope that clarified that:D

We have always had fun & banter on here, which could seem a cliquey but not the case at all, join in with it & you'll soon get the humour & way convo's goes, just unfortunately some take it upon themselves to rebel against this & wonder why many people will have THEIR own say on the matter, as they care about the members & the forum.

I don't disapprove, it's just that I don't post in them.

If someone has something they wish to discuss, and back up what they're saying by adding a link, which gives more information to the story, that's all well and good.

I don't like threads that don't bother giving you their opinion.

For example, linking a story in a newspaper saying...

'Dog bites man,' and then just saying 'what do you think?'

What I think is, that it's not worth me bothering to post in those type of threads, that's all.:)

If someone has something they wish to discuss, and back up what they're saying by adding a link, which gives more information to the story, that's all well and good.

I don't like threads that don't bother giving you their opinion.

Well I agree with Garinda on this one. The thing I love most about this forum is the debating and different arguments that go on but I tend not to post on a thread that's just a link with 'what do you think' on it.

I'm a bit nosey so I like to know why the person has posted the thread, why it's relevant to them and what their views are.

So it is a case of "what do you think" should be say;

"I think/believe/consider that ..................."
