Chat Times!

Roy was right and chat is always empty. (well when i look anyway)

i suggest we do bring in chat times were we agree to be online at the same time and can have proper chats :)

Re: Chat Times!

Or if the chat users are logged as in chat room then I could make a script where the number of chatters are counted and displayed next to the chatroom link... So lets say 4 people chatting... it would have AccyChat(4) .. People are more likely to go in if they know people are already there.. even moreso if it says AccyChat(1)

It could be taken a step furthur and if you click on the (n) it pops up a list of who is in there.

I have always stated that I am not a fan of a chat room on a messageboard.. but others are so this type of thing would help yes?

Waddaya fink Roy?

Re: Chat Times!

I usually PM people that are logged on and see if they want to chat. Maybe there could be a standard instant message button next to the members online list to see if they want to go into the chatroom - that way you don't have to keep checking a thread all the time.

Re: Chat Times!

I don't often use a chat room myself as I tend to be on more than one message board at a time and that's enough multi-tasking for me. However I can see the merits of the idea.

I'm always learning myself when it comes to message board/website creation and I could probably be classed as one of the old fogies. ee lad it wud be reet grand to be nobbut a yungun agen

The problem with this chat system is that it is remotely hosted. My previous hosts would not allow my own chat script on the server due to excessive loads created by such scripts. There is a feature that allows me to query the chat system for who is online, but it costs more money ($25) and it can only be polled once every 10 mins.

Now we have our own server I can look into another chat system, then we have total control! :)

Chat systems no matter what they are made of ... java, flash, php, perl .... all of em have one thing in common... very resource hungry.

Roy 29-06-2004 17:07

Re: Chat Times!

hehe - not the remotely hosted ones though! :)
