Something strange happening on Accyweb?

Has anybody else noticed that over the last few days there seem to be literally dozens of new members joining? They all use names that are either nonsensical or downright gobbledegook and they haven't made any posts (so far). Is the site about to be taken over by space aliens?

Think it's been a problem for a while. Mods are trying to catch them as they register but of course if they aren't online more get through.

Re: Something strange happening on Accyweb?

It's just spammers trying to use AccyWeb for advertising things. Us mods have been spending a lot of time getting rid of them as soon as we can. Many members are helping us by reporting spam when they see it. Mods get emails about reports which allow us usually to act quickly. We are banning many before they even post. Some we are not sure about get left until they spam though.

A change was made that has helped but the number if spammers is still high at the moment.

I would like to that everyone who has and does report things. I try to thank people when I can but often get the reports to my phone which let's me deal with it straight away but I don't always have time to say thanks to people.

Probably, Kate, but spammers tend to register and post their spam quickly afterwards. This lot are registering and then just lurking. They're up to something! A mass spam-in perhaps?

Probably logged in to loads of sites and log out from them in one go ?

Seemingly, most spams are generated from Russia and they have recently been 'consolidating' and predicted they would come back this month in full force.

It seems the spammers at the moment are attacking 'Albums' on accyweb so this doesn't add to post count, just makes it harder for the mods to seek & destroy.

Correct, all of Roys sites are being targetted at the moment, even one of his quieter 'specialist sites', (no not porn), is getting between 10 & 20 hits daily from these folk at the moment.

So please help the mods if you see or suspect spam report it,

Thank you.
:)

The same happened on another site I use, some of the sites were actually written in Russian, German and Italian, its hard work for the mods keeping up with these twerps, just another example of the great job they do keeping the site and some of its members:rolleyes: on track
