Hi all

Hi all! Looks a good website, think I'll be visiting lots! Lived in Accy all my life, I'm a sad 80s throwback who loves to remember those happy days of Rumours, Lar-de-Dar's, Sidewalk 54 etc ....oh those were the days! :D

Willow, repeat after me......Klacto...veee....sedsteeeeeeeeen! Call me Klac, it's far easier! It's the title of an obscure 80s 'hit' (well it made number 50 in 1982). It was one of my faves in the days of the Sports Centre Friday night discos!

omg! I used to go the Sports Centre discos. They used to hold them in the room where the gym is now upstairs but they got so big that they took over the main sports hall! Fab!

I know that song well - didn't realise it only got to number 50! lol

Welcome.

Thanks for making me sing your name every time I see it.:)

lettie 29-12-2005 15:56

Re: Hi all

I never realised that it only got to number 50 either. I remember hearing it at most discos, Sports Centre, Era, school etc.....Aaaah, memories.:D

Klactoveesedstein 29-12-2005 17:05

Re: Hi all

Glad to see so many people remembering Klacto, usually people look at me blankly and say 'eh?' !! Bring back Blue Rondo a la Turk I say. I still have my trusty 7" vinyl copy! I used to go to a disco on Knowlmere St and also one at St Nicholas' school....actually I had a far better social life then than I have now!! <drifts off into happy memories....>

garinda 29-12-2005 17:10

Re: Hi all

Hee hee, just had to check your profile to check your age.

No age, but you're female, so at least you didn't wear a Blue Rondo type zoot suit!;)

Klactoveesedstein 29-12-2005 17:18

Re: Hi all

Sadly not Garinda! I'm 38, I'm sure most of you lot remembering Klacto are around the same age. Anyone for Haysi Fantayzee, Thomas Dolby, Scritti Politti, the Associates, to name but a few....!!!i

I'm 40, which is weird because I pass for twenty eight in a dark room.

Loved Haysi. Did you know she is Limhal's sister, and used to be a life model at Wigan college.

Best 80's band for me was Bauhaus, followed by Siouxie, who were still going strong.

Klactoveesedstein 29-12-2005 17:50

Re: Hi all

Never knew that about the girl from Haysi, Kate summat wasn't it? I have a real soft spot for all that early 80s stuff, but my 'serious' fave bands were/are The Smiths and The Waterboys. Certain songs from the early 80s used to just 'get' me, remember Duel by Propaganda? Oh I could go on all night....

Gayle 29-12-2005 18:02

Re: Hi all

Scritti Politti were my 'absolute' favorite at the time.

Also loved Bauhaus but prefered Creatures to the Banshees.

My cat is called Dolby in honour of Thomas Dolby because he's a Tom cat.

Stanaccy 29-12-2005 18:13

Evening Klacto,

You made it then?
:) :D

Stanaccy 29-12-2005 18:14

Re: Hi all

It's a bit shocking all these people on here still remember Bauhaus, Thomas Dolby, Blue Rondo A La Turk etc, it's a wonder John Foxx hasn't got a mention.

Chorley's finest, only to be replaced by thin tached Midge Ure.

Re: Hi all

When I was doing art foundation at Blackburn before moving away, the number of local 80's weirdos was quite small, myself included of course.

There was a Gary Numan clone in Clayton, or Harwood, a year older than me, I hope it's not you!;)

Stanaccy 29-12-2005 18:37

Re: Hi all

Sad thing is I can remember seeing them in 1980 very strange stage set:confused:

Mind you saw Bauhaus the same year, a lot more interesting.

Stanaccy 29-12-2005 18:39

Re: Hi all

No Garinda he was a mate though. Lived in Accy up till he was 20, used to drink in the Hargreaves with him, (and numerous other reprobates).

Lol, cool small world. I remember going to The Castle in Blackburn and he used to be there with his mate, a David Sylvian clone called Nigel.

I'm glad it's not you, as him and his mates from his Graphics course hated me for being a pretentious ******, and held an exhibition outside King Goerges Hall pretending to mimic my work. Don't know where they got that idea from????:D

Klactoveesedstein 29-12-2005 19:02

Re: Hi all

Hi StanAccy ;) Yes made it finally.

Gayle, I'm so impressed at your cat's name!! I'm in heaven on here! Think we might need an '80s musical memories' thread......or carry on posting on my introduction thread, then I look popular hehe :D

Stanaccy 29-12-2005 19:02

Re: Hi all

Blimey could have been 2 of them then. Cause the one I knew went to Accy College and then started work at some engineering company I think.

(Don't know what's scarier David Sylvian clone or Gary Numan, good job there wasn't a Phil Oakey one to give you a full set :))

Stanaccy 29-12-2005 19:04

Re: Hi all

Oh no musical memories:eek:

Those scary clothes and even worse dancing :D

Klactoveesedstein 29-12-2005 19:06

Re: Hi all

Erm I think you'll find David Sylvian was once voted 'Most beautiful man in the world' and how I agree.......<swoon> Used to have a Smash Hits poster of him on my bedroom wall hehe

Stanaccy 29-12-2005 19:14

Re: Hi all

Maybe, but still find the idea of folk trying to be him scary:eek:

Maybe because I couldn't have looked like anyone at that age except possibly someone with sad hair in a band like Samson or Saxon:mad:

This thread is getting a bit scary. I did my art foundation at Blackburn as well. I'm guessing that as I'm 41 and you're 40 I was there the year before you.

OMG,but I did the pre foundation course as well, so we must have been there at the same time. We need to swap names, unless you were a hippy chick then, and I would have looked down on you.;)

I was a goth! Used to wear a lot of dark eyeliner!

garinda 29-12-2005 23:27

What year did you leave, 81, or 82? I left 83.

Better pm we'll get told off for mafia chatting.;)

Gayle is right this is getting scary, everyone is 2 - 3 years younger than me :(

Hello and welcome to Accy web Klac.

Uncle Mick 30-12-2005 21:51

Re: Hi all

I remember a David Sylvian clone from the New Era , but she was a girl! There were quite a few Numanoids, male and female and a Phil Oakey lookalike. Short, podgy but Russ did have the hair. Gayle was a Boy George lookalike... no offence!

Klactoveesedstein 31-12-2005 09:14

Re: Hi all

Oh how I love this New Romantic nostalgia! I also have fond memories of another good night out, the Kurfew Klub which was held at the Berkeley on Thursday nights round about late 80s? Anyone remember that? Every time I hear Homicide by 999 I think of that place.......<drifts off yet again into more musical memories>

lettie 31-12-2005 16:52

Re: Hi all

Aaaah what memories. I was a big fan of Numan and Bauhaus. I may still even have some old LP's somewhere.

Klacto, there is an old 80's thread in the anything goes section. Try clicking the search bit on the accyweb toolbar at the top and type in 80's, it's sure to come up.:D

lettie 31-12-2005 16:56

Re: Hi all

Found it. Here's the link to the old 80's thread.

http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/s...ghlight=80%27s

A lot of the old pictures from the thread have long disappeared, but the writing and memories are still there.
