Back To My Roots

Hello
It must have something to do with getting old and wanting to get in touch with your past, but it looks like the time has come and the urge has taken over,so here I am.
Born in Stanley St in 1941 (so an old boy now, but still quite lively).
Left in to 50/60's for far off Blackburn then Nelson, then the World.
Have been back a few times, and it's always has had a place in my heart.
I've been looking at some of the old photo's on the web site (very nostalgic). Don't think I have any family in the town now.
Went to St Pauls junior (BH) and then Hyndburn Park.
My dad was a piano player, and we had a cornershop at the bottom of Ceader St for a while.
As I remember it in general, it was all a very happy time.
Now living in France having worked around the world a bit,and having the odd glass here and there.
My wife (a southerner) still raves about the market and the market hall, I'd love to bring her back.
Well that's my introduction, everyone stay happy!
Alan Dickinson

Hello Alan, sounds like you'll fit right in here among all the old and not so old farts, so welcome!

When I first joined I got a real buzz from writing about my early life and folks seemed to enjoy reading and commenting. Check out

There are lots of other great nostalgia threads about too.

Alan Dickinson, born 1941! I'm sure I knew you, can even see the face.
Was it at Hyndburn Park?
Either way, hello and welcome.

Alan, look at the photo on 'Hyndburn Park-one for the ladies' on Accy Photos, last post was 23/1/12. Post 15.

Re: Back To My Roots

Welcome Alan. Any relation to Melvin Dickinson, who had a brother, went to HPk and lived at the bottom of Dowry (?) St ? He is still in Acc and attends Cambridge St Meths.

Cashman is pretending that he is going to Caen. It's more likely to be Colne. He's showing off.

I don't think you will be on the photo that Gordon Booth is talking about, as it was of the HPk Juniors, and you probably went to HPk at the same time as he went to the Grammar School - after the 11plus.

You will no doubt be hearing from 'Little Pom' ( Marion Walsh)

Do you recall any lads of your year who went to the Grammar School ? I think John Wild was in your year there. I would like to find him as I am mem sec for the AGS Old Boys. I'm not so old, being a '41er too.

Welcome.

I hope the forum brings back some happy memories.

No matter how far we wander, our roots are still firmly planted in one place.

Now, Bob, memory is a funny thing! I was right, he's stood next to me and I recognised him. See HP-one for the ladies.61-62 years ago.
