I was born in Accy

Hello,
I was born in Accrington in 1944 at 5 Sawley Avenue and then we moved to 52 Burnley Road where my dad had a signwriting business. We then moved to Burnley when I was about 4.

My hobby is family history research.

I seem to have a recollection of watching a Victory Parade go through the centre of Accrington. If my memory is right it would be sometime between 1946 to 1948. Can anyone help?

Regards,
Allan

52 is roughly at the end of Bradshaw St on the right side going up. There was an off-licence and the Boar's Head pub across the road from your house with Joe''s chippy a few doors up.@ 66. Carnival days were held on Saturdays in the centre, and large RC church parades on some Sundays. There would be a big one in 1951 for Fe4styival of Britain.
Click onto 'Search' on top line, and type in Family History Society' for past postings with good advice.
You may have been the first occupants of Sawley Ave post-war. If so, likely that your parents already loved in the town. I think they were council houses.

Getting a bit personal there, Bob!

Welcome Allan, I've done some family history but my attention span is short, it gets so complicated.Got back to 1850's but it gets a lot harder after that.
