  • Prohibition of slavery and forced labour
  • Right to liberty and security
  • Right to fair trial
  • No punishment without law
  • Right to respect for private and family life
  • Freedom of thought, concience and religion
  • Freedom of expression
  • Freedom of assembly and association
  • Right to marry
  • Prohibition of descrimination
  • Protection of property (which after thing in the news at the moment this doesn't seem true).
  • Right to education
  • Right to free elections
  • Abolition of death penalty

Re: Human Rights Act ???

I like the one about "Right to liberty and security". Where does that leave us when idiots with rampant TB are wandering about, infecting others? Or is that covered by their "Freedom of expression"? I suppose burglars/muggers are simply exercising their right to freedom of expression as well.

I am sick of hearing about rights - why can't we have an Act that says:

You do not have the right to infect others with your potentially fatal diseases. If you refused treatment, you will be either isolated or compelled to undergo a full course. Why can't somebody section this dangerous idiot? - then he could be treated/isolated and the rest of us can exercise our right to security.

You do not have the right to break into someone's home with impunity. If you do so, you leave your "Human Rights" at the point of entry, and the householder/victim is entitled to defend him/herself and property.

As for Willow's question about the human rights of victims of crime - forget it - they don't seem to have any.
