If it's any help Dale, I work for a large Housing association in Blackburn that went through a stock transfer (like Hyndburn have just done) 5 years ago and in those five years we have spent millions on doing the houses up, to the extent that anyone who now approaches us about getting a home we have to quote that it will take a minimum of 18 months to be offered a property as the demand is now so high.

The other plus is that the more decent people who have moved into previously problem areas seem to have a hand in turning areas around. So lets hope thats the case when you move in eh!!!

Errr you are decent aren't you?? ;) :p ;)

Good luck on the move :)

I am on Twin Valleys waiting list, they basically told us not to hold our breath, Calico in Burnley said the same.
And yes we are decent. ;) :D :p

It's Twin Valley I work for and yes it is a case of don't hold your breath unfortunately!! We operate a choice based lettings scheme which means that you fill in a form, get a number and then we advertise the properties available every wednesday in the lancs eve telegraph, on the internet and at various points throughout Blackburn and darwen.

The plus points are that you are not asked when joining what areas you want its down to you to check the advert out and then let us know which property you are interested in. You have till Monday 4pm to tell us which ones you would be interested in.

Tuesday a short list is run and the property is offered to the person who has the earliest membership date or had a priority status given under the homelessness legislation (which also includes medical need).

I think eventually all properties will be let this way as it seems the fairest and also people get to choose exactly where they want to live instead of being told where they CAN live!!!

The minus points are that due to people choosing exactly where they want to live means there is less movement hence less properties available to let... and longer waiting times to get a property.

We now have over 8,000 who are live on our system!!

Dale I would advise you that when you move to contact us and let us know your new address, then you will continue to build up time if you should ever choose to move to the blackburn or darwen area :)
