Jon Anderson from Yes
Hello to all you Accringtonians!
I'm an Italian guy with British relatives, though I've never actually been to Accrington...all I know about it is due to my love for the pop band"Yes",whose vocalist,Jon Anderson, was actually born in your town almost 59 years ago...I once spoke to him after a gig,and he actually didn't seem to have a Lancs accent!Has he got any connection with Ireland???Well,I'd really love to come in touch with his relatives up there, and get to know how the town of Accrington deals with having such a star being born here! |
Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
I don't think most people even know who he is, sorry to dissapoint you Gianni! You never know, though, good luck with your seach, I will follow it with interest....
ps my mother-in-law is from Zocca (BO) - birth village of Vasco Rossi if that's any interest to you.......? Also did you know that Mick Hucknall has a lovely appartment near to Via Brera in Milan? Useless info, but never mind! ;D |
Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
I remember when Anderson was with the "Warriors" and their studio was an old shop on Henry Street in Church..,all the kids used to go in and watch them. They were voted 3rd best act on a programme called "Thank Your Lucky Stars" in 1963....1st and 2nd spots went the Beatles & the Stones respectively....They used to drive round in an old green bedford van - the sort with the sliding driver and passenger door....and they had a great pair of bull horns on the roof.....which gives me an idea for my wheelie bin...

Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
I was in the same year as his niece who now lives in Oswaldtwistle. I have the address somewhere but do not think it is right to give it out. :-X Sorry m8
My mum was in the same class as Jon at St Chrissies! |
Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
Jon Anderson used to live on Norfolk Street. He was born in 1944 and left for the bright lights of London circa 1966. I worked with another member of the Warriors, Mick Brereton, on the highways dept during the summer of '69.
|
Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
The Warriors also practiced in a wood hut on Downham Drive Fern Gore. Mick Foster was another member of the group. He lived in the first or second house on Downham Drive. I'm not sure if Jon Anderson ever lived up Fern Gore or not.

Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
Anyone remember "Tanglefoot?"
|
Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
Regarding Tanglefoot, I used to work with a guy called John Wilkinson who used to drive them around from gig to gig in his white Jaguar in the mid 70s.
|
Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
I used to go to Jon's house after school with my friends, we'd clean all the lipstick messages off the van for them. We'd also watch them rehearse at st Augustine's church hall in Huncoat. Sadly, Ian Wallace , a drummer in The Warriors died in February after an amazing musical career.

Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
Jon Anderson,(Curly), as he was known, used to live in Spring Street, (Spring Hill), in the early 1960s; I say this with the knowledge that my wife also lived in Spring Street at the same time and knew him very well, he would have been 13 or 14 at the time.
His first job was at the Nori brickworks, where a lifelong friend of mine taught him how to turn the ginny wagons that ran under Whinny Hill from the now known as Whinney Hill quarry. The aforsaid friend always remarks that his main claim to fame was instructing the millionaire half of Jon and Vangelis how to work in a big hole in the ground. Your's as ever Taddy. |
Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
I was referring to Joy. Tony has remarried after his wife's death. His new wife was one of the congregation of the church at which he was pastor. I think that they still visit prisons to sing to prisoners and hope to give them the Christian message.

Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
think you have got the wrong Jon, in 1960 Jon would be 16 as for working in the brickyard he didn't have the energy for physical work or the inclination.

Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
First of all I am sorry to say that BOB was right about JOY dying, but I have been informed that for the last few years she was very happy and also had, if there is such a thing a very nice send off. 2nd yes Cashy I was referring to Taddys post. I'm not good on these things nather. 3rd just had it confirmed, Jon never lived on springhill road, or worked at the brickworks.

Re: Jon Anderson from Yes

It seems that we shall have to agree to differ. I may have got the bit aboout Spring Street wrong though, my wife knew John when they were children, he was always known as Curly and he was brought up in the (Spring Hill Area). Your's, Taddy |
Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
After taxing the memories of ancient friends and comparing them with my own and my wifes
memories; I am 99% sure that the above John/Jon/Curly, Anderson did used to live (for however long), on Spring Street in the early 60s. His parents house was on the top block on the left coming from Fairfield Street. My wife's family used to live on the top block on the right at the same time and he did work at the now defuct Nori brickyard. Stay happy, Your's Taddy. |
Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
I've dropped a line to Tony. I asked if he still had a D.A.

Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
Sorry Taddy I think you and your friends have become a victim of a factoid (thanks to Bradly Walsh and the Chase I found out a factoid is something that keeps getting repeated from person to person then they start believing its true.) In 1963 and onward I spent quite a bit of time in 13 Norfolk st and I can assure you that information I gave previous is correct. P.S. I also confirmed this with his sister-in-law.

Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
Also Mog is still in touch with Tony @ sees him occasionally on the I.O.W. so stuff he says is straight from the horses gob, so to speak.;)
|
Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
What ever, but although the bloke is now a world wide celebrity, if anyone can ever get in touch with the man and he is forthright about his past; he will admit that he once served in a big hole in the ground,(Whinney Hill Quarry), with a big lad known at the time as (Big D ),when they were both in there teenage year's.
If the man wishes to deny this, then o/k I will leave it at that. I do not wish to be taken to court for any deformation of character. Your's Taddy. |
Re: Jon Anderson from Yes
Ian used to live in Downham Dve, Fern Gore round the corner from Mick Foster
