Does anybody know when the Great Harwood pram race is on? Cheers.

Hi Lex
Pram race is Sunday 11th June. I think it starts about 11am. Not sure where from though. My friends are taking part, but unfortunately I don't finish work until 1pm, but I'll be there afterwards. One of my friends was exceptionally drunk by that time last year! :)

Re: Pram Race

I wasn't sure about the start time, thats just what was going round.(11.00, 11.30 ) you would think that they would at least advertise the date and starting times of the race. oh-well.

What is this? I can see people in a pram being pushed, but whats it all about, where do they race and how far, it looks fun.

well lemme try n explain then

for starters the race is run for charity (firemans berelevant ?? fund )secondly its a set route of 16 pubs in great harwood (5min from accy) and yes it is on public roads and they are only closed for the start of the race all other times the roads remain open as its such a long route you would have to close the whole of gt harwood otherwise....okie dokie ;)

Madhatter 22-06-2006 01:25

Re: Pram Race

so where do they go after the road is open?
and why 16 pubs, how long is long
I'm asking because I'm looking for ideas for events down here. I was thinking of a wheelie bin race but hadn't thought of prams.

Re: Pram Race

they either run in the roads with the cars...most people know about this so arent going to mow them down..or they run on the pavements

16 pubs cause i just think its the pubs which agree to take part....the contestants have to have one alchoholic drink in each pub by the way

Re: Pram Race

So basically its a pub crawl for charity, and two people per team one pushing and one in the pram yes?, what does the winner get? as we've got over 20 pubs in in half a square mile ours would be a short course. 25 in a square mile. Sadly we've only got less than half of what we had, most have closed.
Atherstone once had a pub to every 40 people including women and children.
