Well I am sure they will do what is 100% best for their children.

And actually I know 100% that Lettie is deffinatly a midwife. Because she looked after me when I was having both of my babies. :D

First of all, congratulations, Mani! Enjoy your new baby!

Secondly, I'd agree with the other posts so far. Babies have a mind of their own and it takes them time to get used to having to do for themselves all the things that were "on tap" whilst they were still cosily snuggled up inside. It must be quite a shock finding yourself in a cold world and feeling heavy for the very first time. Your baby will take time to adjust.

As for feeding, she'll not starve. When she is hungry she will go for it. Just one thought, my older son was difficult to feed - and it turned out he couldn't suck for any length of time because he suffered from an excess of mucus. I had to give him nose drops before a feed until the problem passed.

A problem shared is a problem halved poppy. As many of the people who attend the meets know, I am a trained nurse and midwife (amongst other roles). Mani knows this because I have met him, I have also looked after a fair few people on here. Everyone has the right to ask advice from others in order to verify that they are doing the right thing. There are plenty of mothers on this messageboard too and although every baby is different, mothers are a valued source of advice for new parents.

Congratulations on your new little princess Mani. Sorry, but I was away when you posted this thread (having a well earned holiday after completing my degree). The reason that babies are slow to feed during the first couple of days is that they are what we refer to as 'mucousy'. During birth, some babies tend to swallow some of the amniotic fluid and mucous that is around in the birth canal. Babies are unable to digest this stuff (I don't think anyone would like to digest this stuff). The mucous stays in the tummy and makes your baby feel full and sickly. The only way for the baby to get rid of it is to have a few good pukes over the first few days of life. Once they have puked the mucous (takes 2-4 days), they tend to feed better.

Congratulations Mani, hope she's feeding better now, my little girl although she was breast fed only took small amounts at a time though quite often, good luck anyway.

yeah the baby is feedin all good adn well now - along with the dirty nappies

i think it was that initial few days that lettie was talkin about - its just that my first one was on the ball straight away and there were a few ppl around me who were makin an issue of it... so i thought post on here see what other ppl's experiences have been...

Glad baby feeding ok now Mani. The first weeks are a worry to all new parents.
Even those that are old hands.
