Accrington 10k road race
I saw a notice in the Asda earlier on and was wondering if anyone can tell me anything/more about it - as the notice only said the date (29th Oct) and that entries were on the day..
Has anyone actually done it and if so whats the course ? I shall be doing it regardless and already have my ideal finish time in mind. All info would be welcomed. thanks |
Re: Accrington 10k road race
My fella ran it last year, the winner ran it in 32 minutes, he did it in 42mins. He says the course is up Burnley road, down the rabbit run to the Walton Arms then back up to Clayton. From Clayton up Whalley Road to the hospital, turn left down Queens Road then finish at Accrington Cricket Club on Thorneyholme Road.
He says it was a bit of a drag up Burnley Road, then 2k downhill and then a real horrible 5k drag up to Clayton! It's always well attended and well organised. Picture attached (with his permission!!) |

Re: Accrington 10k road race
I dont know if I will do it in that time but the course you have said doesnt seem that bad.. I would be chuffed with 50-55 mins or so but then if I keep my current training up who knows..I done the great scottish run last month which was 13 miles in and around glasgow and finished it in 2 hours or so but I did take my time as it was my first half-marathon so this will be quite nice to do...
thanks for the info |

Re: Accrington 10k road race
it chucked it down when I done my half marathon and I was quite glad as it meant I didnt heat up all that quickly, I would actually prefer it to rain..

Re: Accrington 10k road race
Good luck to you Glasgow Guy - I have a lot of respect for you. I wish I could have the fitness, and motivation, to do something like this. I will prob go down and watch again this year, although my fella is giving it a miss this time due to being too busy to do any training.

Re: Accrington 10k road race
So did you run it Glasgow Guy?! We went down to watch, stood on the motorway bridge on Whalley Road in Clayton, saw Dany Robson from the Observer. My boyfriend didnt run in the end, he's put too much on his plate at the mo and hadn't had chance to do any training. I pulled out the times from last years race:
The winner was Paul Freany who ran it in 00:33:01 My fella came in at 137th and ran it in 00:44:18 Dany was 148th in 00:44:37 (and says she improved loads this time round!) and last was Sarah Valavin 384th in 01:19:40 - good on her, better than I could ever do anyway!! |
