Missing gem?
Accrington is part of a necklace delicately draped across East Lancs...yet it has lost some of its' shine. What 'thing' would make it sparkle again and make people notice it between it's rival jewels?

Re: Missing gem?
Does it need a community centre, and if so with what facilities?
Could it be something so simple as innovative public toilets? Would you like to see more entrepreneurs setting up their businesses? Or maybe a multi-use fun and green social area is needed? |
Re: Missing gem?
It never lost it's gem or it's sparkle!!
I just started staying in more .........................:D:D:D |

Re: Missing gem?
innovative public toilets????????????
Well we did have those weirdly shaped ones once opposite the Astronaut. I'd settle for mirrors in the ones we've got - oh and plugs for the sinks. What's the point of having the water too hot to use when you can't cool it down because there are no plugs for the sinks? |
Re: Missing gem?
A challenging art installation, placed in a prominent position, could be the jewel in our delicately draped necklace.:D

Re: Missing gem?

Can I answer at the end of the month please? The one thing about just visiting is being able to pick up differences easier.

Re: Missing gem?
How about a stretch of golden sands, crystal blue ocean, beach side cafes & bars, mediteranian temperatures & a mardi gras,or is that asking too much

Re: Missing gem?
I think that litter free streets would be a nice start.........buildings without graffiti...........a little bit of civic pride. Substance instead of airy fairy ideas.
The renovation of the awful 1960s blue building at the bottom end of Broadway...or better still, knock it down and start again. Fill the empty shops....surely it has to be better to get some revenue than let them stand empty and have visitors think that the town is dead on its feet.....same with the market stalls........rent them out at lower costs to make the market more interesting. |

Re: Missing gem?
The Astronaut was a public house in Union St. The weird shaped toilets were across the road from this drinking venue.

Re: Missing gem?
Funny cos I asked this months ago, Ideas to inspire the world, and got not one idea. Coventry got over 100 different ideas. from litter to the damn right outragous. Three decent answers MP, maxwell silver and rindy.
I still wait with anticipation... |
Re: Missing gem?
I think the market is in it's death throes.
What was once a thriving market, with a good indoor and covered outdoor market, is now just a joke, with fewer as well as empty stalls. Think of all the specialist stalls, such as the three tripe/black pudding stalls etc., that have decamped to other more viable places. Another example of HBC's inability to offer imaganitive planning. In this case, if it isn't broken don't fix it. Too late for that now. |
