Buses on Boxing Day?

Anyone know if the buses will be running from Ossy to Clayton on boxing day?
Or even the Hyndburn circular that goes up Dill hall lane then along Queens Rd.
Need to get to Stanley/Crown for a good drink before the game, no driving :D

Afraid not KSH, no buses running at all that day. My mum who lives in Clayton is planning on walking to the game

No buses, no trains! Any chance you could get the taxi driver to go via Stockport?

When you was a kid buses in Accy ran on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, those were the good years before Mrs Thatcher's Deregulation of Public Transport bill came into force, when the buses were run to provide a service to the public as opposed to now, if there is no profit there is no bus.

And why should they?
The drivers are intitled to have a christmas break with there family like everyone els

Re: Buses on Boxing Day?

I remember my dad (a bus driver) working boxing day, not sure about Xmas day though.
Mick - I think they should run some kind of service but not a full one, it is a public service and Xmas is a time when people want to use it, should the police fire and ambulance services be having the day off too? my mrs has to work Xmas day in a nursing home, should she have the day off - we wish

My wife works in a nursing home too and this is the first Christmas she has had off in 15 years .
she has been called in just as we sat down to the dinner a few years ago.
yes some services have to have cover i will agree.

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you in my last post but I looked on your profile and in 1986 when the buses stopped running on Christmas you were ten years old, and up to 1986 busses used to run in Accrington on virtually Sunday service, at that time I used to be a bus driver in Accy and I used to work Christmas and New Years Day (we used to get paid double time).

Re: Buses on Boxing Day?

Rawtenstall and Accrington buses used to run every day, all be it a Sunday service.I think they still did a Sunday service even after they became Rossendale transport.

MITZY 24-12-2006 07:34

Re: Buses on Boxing Day?

Re above post it was Haslingden and Rawtenstall transport which became Rossendale transport, not Rawtenstall and Accrington, but they all ran over the Christmas/Newyear holidays.
