Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

This is/are a question (or three) for those who watch Dr. Who and Torchwood.

I think I must have been distracted during the Dr. Who episode where Captain Jack Harkness showed up. )It happens a lot when somebody wanders into the room and stands in front of the TV. ) Is he human? If not, what is he? I seem to remember him absorbing some sort of life force which would explain how come in Torchwood he doesn't die but where did he originally come from? At the end of Torchwood last night there were Tardis-y noises so I'm assuming he was whipped away by the doctor but would that have been when he appeared in Dr. Who? In which case he wouldn't already have his regenerative properties. Or does he show up twice in Dr. Who with a gap between and I missed one?

He (the character) was very daring, dancing with and passionately kissing the real Jack Harkness in a crowded dance hall in the 1940s - or at least the real Jack was because that would certainly have been shocking in those days wouldn't it? Is that the end of Torchwood now he's gone? Was he there from the start when Queen Vic set it up? Did Queen Vic know he wasn't quite human?

See, I told you I get distracted and miss bits. :D I really should record these things.

Have a Looky

Might Help seems to be a lot of info, to much for me to read.

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

Thanks Mr. D. That answers most of my questions. All I'm left wondering now is who Jack really is and when he belongs. He is human, but can't see anything about when he was born or what he was called before he adopted the name of Jack Harkness.

Lolly 04-01-2007 10:55

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

Thank god you found that Mr D. I really didn't want to start explaining it all. The only thing I will add is that The Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) & Rose left him on The Gamestation, in the episode Bad Wolf (the episode where they are in Big Brother & The Weakest Link) It hasn't yet been explained how he got back to Earth (for Torchwood). Maybe he did meet Queen Victoria when she started up Torchwood, as he is a time traveller???? I'm sure we'll find out at some point though. He is supposed to be making an appearance in the new series of Dr Who though.

It does say he's from the 51st Century.

flashy 04-01-2007 10:57

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

anyone know when the new series of dr who is coming on ?

WillowTheWhisp 04-01-2007 10:59

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

In Torchwood he seems to BE Torchwood. I mean he is very clearly the leader and has knowledge above and beyond the others, which makes it hard to imagine him as a recruit to an already existing Torchwood at some point in history when Queen Victoria created it.

Its Only Fiction Its Not Real :)

Lolly 04-01-2007 11:04

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

Well it shows Queen Victoria coming up with the idea and the name in the episode "Tooth & Claw" maybe he set it up with her shortly after that episode??

Yes but to be credible it has to have continuity.

flashy 04-01-2007 11:06

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

well obviously, but they need that in a series dont they otherwise it would ****** up a bit wouldnt it :D

Exactly :)

Ask Tinks about captain jack harkness - she's the expert LOL ;)

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

He is Dr Who's long lost son. :D Watching the episode last night the whatever the beast drew out of him was erriely like what happened to Rose when she opened the heart of the tardis and the Dr had to retrieve it prior to his reincarnation. Think it was in a battle against the Kaleds. :D

Brilliant entertainment but so many inconsistencies and plot twists .... now I know why The Doctor just says "I'll explain later" ;)

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

why do all the nice ones go the other way??? boo hoo!!

WillowTheWhisp 04-01-2007 19:07

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

That was what Em said when she found out he was gay. :D

Time travel is an intriguing subject. If you change the past you could cease to exist but then you wouldn't be there to change the past so you would exist but then you'd change the past so you wouldn't exist - like what if you killed your grandfather before your father was born. That kind of thing.

panther 04-01-2007 19:21

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

......so you cant change the past, cuz you dont exist, im confused now....thats why its impossible

WillowTheWhisp 08-01-2007 10:52

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

Well if you changed something in the past you could prevent your parents or grandparents or great grandparents ever getting together - but if you did that and prevented your own birth then you'd never have been there in order to go back and do whatever it was so it's like a Catch 22 vicious circle. :D

mthead 08-01-2007 12:40

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

At the end of the last episode you could here the 'Tardis' when Cpt.Jack disappeared. So my thoughts are he is a'Time Lord' like Dr.Who or the Doctor came to give him a lift somewhere:D.If it is that he is a 'Time Lord' it may be time for a switch in actors playing the part which is usually what happens in the Dr.Who series.Tinks wont be very happy if that happens.:D

WillowTheWhisp 14-01-2007 15:21

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

He can't be a Time Lord because Dr. Who is supposed to be the last of his kind, which is a bit sad. :(

Tinkerbelle 14-01-2007 15:24

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

I've told him that already, but that's his theory and he's sticking to it lol!

WillowTheWhisp 14-01-2007 15:37

Well he's a man so what do you expect? :D

LOL! Very true Willow.

I've tried telling him that Jack and The Doctor have some un-finished business regarding the hand in the jar.

If he did have a son then he would be part time lord woudnt he. Still convinced Jack is his son and the hand is a red herring.

Tinkerbelle 14-01-2007 16:05

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

Oh I'm not sure about that theory either Spug ;) How can he be half a Time Lord?

SPUGGIE J 14-01-2007 16:07

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

There is a theory that the Dr is tied to the Earth because he is part human.

Tinkerbelle 14-01-2007 16:09

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

Captain Jack doesn't regenerate though?

Thankfully :D

Not yet anyway. ;) Have those hankies at hand just in case Tinks. :help: :bleedht: :s_cry:

Tinkerbelle 14-01-2007 16:17

Re: Dr. Who/Torchwood/Captain Jack

It ain't going to happen! They wouldn't do that to me ..... would they?

I really don't think Jack is a Time Lord. Like I say there's the regeneration thing and Jack has previously died, I don't think the Doctor has?

jack has gone off in the tardis with the doctor and this story picks up about halfway through the next series of dr who, begins sometime in march i think.....looking forward to it.

the hand in the jar belonged to the doctor, it was chopped off by the sycorax in the christmas invasion, fell to earth and was collected by the torchwood institute, the doctor grew a new hand , jobs a good `un!!!

I know I had avoided this thread when I first taped it just in case it gave away the end but it's accymel's fault ;) for bringing it back to life again I just couldn't resist having a nosy!!!

it's just finding the time to watch it as my youngest wants to watch it too!! In fact we still have the second part of prime suspect to watch aswell

:D well I did wonder.

My Em loves Torchwood and she's 12 but she's a gruesome sort of kid anyway.
