Travel Plans

I'm due an overnight stay in Liverpool (I know  ) in the very near future. Best prices I have is £12.40 return ticket train and £55 in the Travel Lodge .. Inn thingy. Do they sound a good deal or has anyone any cheaper solutions? It has to be Lime Street Station and the accommodation has to be close to the Liverpool University

Re: Travel Plans

Sounds like a good deal to me.

There is a bus to Liverpool from Accy, via Southport but it takes ages. The train's much better.

I went to college there, it's a great city.

Re: Travel Plans

If you were feeling flush you could have stayed at the Adelphi, just across the road, for £81.00. It's really grand, but friendly. You could call them and ask if they have any special deals for when you are going.

Cheers Rindy Roo.

I have family living there, my auntie is in Waterloo and my Gran has just moved close by to her but I don't want to impose. Liverpool University, Travel In and Lime Street are all close by to each other aren't they?

Yeah, very close by. The uni is just up the hill, and the Travel Lodge is across from the station.

try the uni itself as they sometimes let out halls and can be a lot cheaper than hotels and they usually include breakfast but shop around usually travellodge/inn usually one of the most expensive

Ta, just had a look £95when I need a stop oer. It's only one night so I'd go for the nearest cheapest option

Re: Travel Plans

There is also the YMCA and the women's one, on the hill from the station to the uni.

Being a sinner they might not let you in though.:D

Sorry, but I've never been to Liverpool. Is there only one University? it's the Liverpool University Guild I'm going to.

I didn't think £55 was top bad for a double room

Eleven years out of date, but the tel. number's there.

The YWCA on Rodney St, is very handy for where you are going.

garinda 15-01-2007 00:26

Re: Travel Plans

Yeah, there are two universities, and loads of different buildings. They are all close by to each other. If you get a black cab to where you are going, it's only 1/2 mile from the hotel/station, and they'll take you straight to the door.

garinda 15-01-2007 00:29

Re: Travel Plans

The YWCA is nice, just an old Georgian townhouse.

I wouldn't recommend the YMCA. I had to stay there for a week when I first arrived. Ok if you are into care in the community types trying to get into your room at night!

It's one of the academy buildings. Academy 1 I think

It's the European City of Culture in '08, so is buzzing at the moment, and well worth a visit the next time you are over.

Exquisite Georgian and early Victorian arcitecture, some of the best in Europe. The film Yentl was part filmed there, pretending to be an earlier NY, which I worked on. Some good theatres. Lots to do, besides all the Beatle stuff.

The people? Everyone is a comedian.:D

Apart from the accent, then, I should fit in nicely!

Thanks for the advice, rindy. Will have to give Liverpool a go one of these trips. Certainly is within reasonable distance from Ossy.

but this is tinks we are talking about...are you still over here?

katex 15-01-2007 18:02

Re: Travel Plans

Tinks, you have to list what your criterias are. Ok, don't need parking, so this facility with Travelodge not an advantage to you, but is it within walking distance to your destination? They don't always have any eating facilities and, much worse, no bar !! (take yer own) Sometimes affiliated to a pub chain/Little Chef, etc., nearby.

Stayed in lots of these and, although, 'a few' are a little outdated, usually comfortable and warm with tea making facilities, telly, continental breakfast (extra) phone ,etc., just have to look at the facilities of the one you were looking at, offers and the particular date. If there is a room available, book it NOW as they get booked up fairly quickly, don't dither. Most usually have a
Dove shower cream that doubles up as a shampoo, but not all, so to be on the safe side, take a shampoo !!

Best thing about these type of stay overs are nobody bugs you, you pay as you book in, so only need to drop key in reception with no long queues.

At least with this type of hotel, you roughly know they have a national standard and what to expect. Enjoy your stay wherever you finish up ... xx

Sorry to make this a long post, but, to digress, I am just now trying to book a hotel for 3 nights stay in Bournemouth for myself and a colleague (6 bookings.. refuse to share a room :D ) ... lots of them are becoming no smoking rooms throughout the hotel which I couldn't 'hack' or they are £ 140 plus room only .. bloody nightmare, never had this trouble before. Booked hotel for Glasgow for week before (now no smoking law there) and was easy peasy !! Still allow smoking rooms.

No, I'm back at home since January 3. Had to get back to the office so that I can continue to support my travel habit. Headed for California for a week in February.

Re: Travel Plans

Cheers kate. It's just somewhere to get my head down for the night. Going to Liverpool in the morning, book in somewhere, then go sight seeing til the evening, drink lots of beer then going to a gig at the academy in the evening. Back to where we are staying after the gig then back home next morning. The building work next door isn't a problem I'm hoping to be p*ssed by the time I get back and want to be away quite early in the morning.

The main criteria is that the travel lodge, lime st station and the academy are all in close proximity to each other.

A gig?

A gig?

I thought you were doing a Shirley Valentine.

Have a good time.

Who you going to see?

Sightseeing-
The Philharmonic Pub, across from the Philharmonic Hall on Hope Street, is near to where you are going, and worth a visit. Ladies are allowed to go in the men's bogs, as it is famous for it's Art Nouveau interior, supposedly the finest in the world.:D

The best band in the world :D

If I was doing a Shirley Valentine it wouldn't be in Scouse land LOL!

Maybe I should of explained better ;) my idea of sight seeing is to look for the pub that has the best atmosphere and sells the cheapest beer :D
