whats gets paint out of carpet ?
 

I have got little splashes of paint - both gloss and emulsion :o on the carpet after painting and I am looking for advice on how to remove them without doing serious damage...:confused:

and I have already had the replies from other folk of the following..

'why not just paint the rest of your carpet' :D
'cut the painted bits out and replace with bits cut from under something':D

so for any comedians out there I have heard them all today !!

if the emulsion is not dry then it will wash out with some soapy water, but rinse spot well or it will attract dirt easily... for gloss or dried emulsion, white spirits is a bit too harsh, I have used for small splashes a hand cleaner that is designed to wash paint out of hands but can't remember what it was called!!:o

There's not a lot that will get gloss out bud.

Contact you're insurance, it's what you pay you're premiums for.

Use clean cloth dipped in white spirit, then use carpet or upholstery shampoo.

no it wasn't swarfega jen and it only worked on small splashes not large amounts which I would go for spuds advice if it is

Just check you have accidental damage cover if you are claiming under you house insurance.

And it will cost you probably £50 Excess.

My decorator is coming down tomorrow night (month earlier than expected, how inconsiderate :eek:) to discuss fings .. will ask him if anything helps ... suppose as a professional though, doesn't get on the carpet in the first place LOL.

Is it a wool or synthetic carpet ? What colour is the paint ? Have you tried anything initially to remove ?

try wd40 then carpet cleaner afterwards works very well for chewing gum its what i used to use on the carpets in the pub.try it on a patch that is not so much on show first but i have never had any problems with carpet afterwards.you need to let wd40 soak in for a few mins first

turps might get gloss up but emulsion you have to get up when still wet with soap and water, if it all dried, then god knows!!:D

Vodka is good at removing things, try it, if it dosn't work you could always drink it.

If its emulsion then keep it wet. Best bet is to hire one of those carpet cleaners from the HSS Hire shop depending on the area of carpet that has paint on it.

Decorator did not have any better ideas other than suggested above, except if dried in little hard lumps, using a stanley knife to shave off the tops of the pile is the only solution . not too deep mind you :D

Oh no, noisy stuff laminate

And to be honest it doesn't cost much more to rip up old floorboards and put nice new ones down that can then be varnished.

If the paint is only speckles, them put a comb into the affected pile and use a new disposable razor to shave off the affected pile......this is if the solvents do not work and you don't trust yourself with a stanley knife.

The comb will make sure that the lower part of the pile (that is unaffected) will be protected.
I'm not sure that my explanation is all that clear.

Try putting them things you use for a cooler boy on it so zt freezes the paint right through.Then use a nail brush to brush it off.When the paint is hard it lets itself get rubbed off easier.Done it on some clothes and it worked not leaving a stain.As soon as i got the paint off i washed straight away.

yes I have !!!

as mentioned by several posters...the razor blade shaving the carpet - worked a treat !!! for both the gloss and emulsion..

paint ?...what paint !!
