Can you believe this?

It's true ... a sports superstar is taking a lower salary than what he is worth for the good of the team he plays for, and because of the fan support he has received. Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins has accepted a contract of $45 million over six years, so that the team can keep its salary cap obligations. Analysts figure he is worth at least $2 million a year more. I know that a lot of you don't follow the gentlemanly sport of hockey, but this kid is the greatest player to hit the ice since Wayne Gretzky; he won the NHL scoring title in his rookie year! One can hope that this will set a trend among overpaid athletes, but I won't hold my breath.

Mind you, Canadian dollars are only worth about 3 shillings, so he's probably only just making minimum wage. :D

I know ... but it is a start ... any athlete taking less, even if it is only a mere couple of million per year is a shocker ... also NHL teams have a salary cap of about $50 million a year .... with that meagre amount of money you couldn't buy much of a football team. And by the way, the Canadian dollar is worth almost exactly the same as the US greenback, and is still rising. But Crosby is being paid in American dollars .... in case you haven't looked at a map recently, I do believe Pittsburgh is somewhere in the US.:rolleyes:

Good to hear that. Is that the Torres who had such a great World Cup for Spain? Heard on the news tonite that Beckham has bought a $22 million dollar home in LA. One of his neighbours is Tom Hanks, the other Tom Cruise. But if you ever get chance to watch Crosby play take it. And at bottom he is just a nice kid from small town down east Canada.
