Still quite peeved about this as she hasn't been found. Why didn't anybody from the bus do anything?

In other words, I guess you guys don't have the rights of Citizen's Arrest? Over here every Citizen has the right (and possibly obligation) to detain a person that commits or is in the act of committing a crime. In this case assault.

Brian

People here quite rightly fear that if they try to detain someone under such circumstances they are liable to be the ones sued for assault or kidnap or something. It may sound crazy but it happens.

In this case the person making a citizens arrest wouldn't even be able to touch the woman to keep her there or it would be likely be taken as assault aswell so most people would most likely not bother. Besides, citizens arrest seems to be a little outdated, I didnt think anyone really did it anymore as your likely to get a punch/kick/spit in the face aswell!

No, but if you witness anti-social behaviour you have the option of challenging it, rather than sitting there like a lemon, whilst some old person is being attacked.

Maybe she did it as she got off the bus so it was too quick for anyone to react?

I'm sure someone must know who she is though.

And how do you know people didnt?

My friend said she did it as she was getting off the bus, and the bus driver offered the old man the option of the dna chance as a better chance of finding the woman but he didnt want the fuss. She told me this happened at least a month ago, so i wonder why its only just reached the papers now.

Most people dont react and help someone due to fear of being attacked aswell. Alot of bus users tend to be young people and older people aswell, who's to say people challenging her would've been any use? People asked the old man if he was ok, thats what matters, not trying to be a hero.
