i did my work experience there in 1995 and i got offered a job but i couldnt take it,got some good tips there

no i was in housekeeping, and i had to wear a long black dress with a white pinny,but 2 peeps at my school were in the catering dep at the same time,and 1 in the leisure dep and 1 on reception

LOL - I slaved one day as a chambermaid there 13 years ago - one day was enough - they didnt send my day's pay so I kept the dress and pinny - thought they might come in handy for fancy dress (drastically shortened of course ;) )

Has recently changed hands again from MacDonalds to Mercure Hotels and they seem to be bringing in re-furbishing (which quite a few MacDonalds needed in my opinion)

They also have another Executive Housekeeper as from probably when you were both there, so things could be different now.

It is to be hoped that now chambermaids can have TWO sponges, so that toilets and bedroom teacups aren't cleaned with the same one any longer :eek:

Do you know, this has been discussed at work .. always wondered about that one .. did they actually change the teacups or not, or just wipe them in the bedroom with the same cloth they used for everything else ? Seems like I have got an answer.

When they were short staffed on rooms I had to help out (Worked on front of house). I promise I never used the same cloth.

(Anne Rhodes was Exec Housekeeper then. (we went to her wedding in May)

we were told to use the same facecloths and hand towels to clean all the teacups and to clean the bathroom down with,i found it discusting to say it was a top class hotel,i had to clean the bathroom once of a bburn rovers footy player whilst he sat on the bath chatting to me drinking one of the many cans he had stashed under the sink,i felt stupid as i was only 15,cleaning a loo whilst someone famous was there,i will never get over that

It has never been a place that I would chose to stay in, no real reason why but boy am I glad now. The very idea of cleaning anything with facecloths and hand towels is beyond me. I hope they were replaced with new ones and not washed and put back again!!!:eek:

I dont lie - thats the way it was the one day I was there. I remarked about it to the girl who was showing me the ropes --"thats the way it is here"

In addition --- she advised me to steam sterliize the crockery and cutlery I was to use to eat my 'staff lunch' ---- I watched as they all did it.

That was the way it was 13 years ago --maybe (and likely) your employment was after that. The girl who was the senior chambermaid was Hazel (my advisor) and I remember reading about her promotion to Housekeeper. Maybe she was responsible for some improvements (likely)
