The Cock and Whistle
 
Does anybody know where the Cock and Whistle pub was? I am reading Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit and it is mentioned, was just wondering if anybody remembered it.:confused:

Don't think it is fictional though I could be wrong. Sounds like it was somewhere near the Factory Bottom or maybe Black Abbey Street.

never heard of that one bernie:confused: but who knows? also was told about one many years ago called The Farting Donkey, which was supposed to be what became the Woodnook? never bought that story but the guy was insistent.:)

i thik the actual name was the farthing donkey
a miniture donkey of that era

I was told it was called Farting Donkey because they used Donkeys to cart stuff up the steep hill from Victoria street.. and the donkey's would let off because off the strain! (strange but true?)

the guy that told me also said the old sign was in the yard when he went in, a few years previous, of coarse i went straight up to the woodnook from the commercial, but if it had been there,it had gone.:(
