Dog training in Accrington?
My girlfriends mum is looking for somewhere to take her dog for training. The dog is just over a year old and is a japanese akita cross labrador. She likes to run off and acts nasty towards strangers, anyone recommendations as to where to take her. Thanks in advance.

Re: Dog training in Accrington?
sounds like your girlfriends Mum should have gone for lessons before taking possession of an aggresive type breed of dog.
re. the dog, training should have began when the dog was first weaned , not after a year , and from the sound of things being allowed to run wild.  |
Re: Dog training in Accrington?
There used to be a class at Huncoat community centre on a monday night.not sure if it is still running..i agree with steeljack the dog should of been assessed long before now regards the problems it has..although at 12mths old the dog can be turned around with a lot of hard work and determination from the owner..If all else fails regards finding a training class tell the owner to ask at her vets for a list of animal trainers/behaviourists in the area..

Re: Dog training in Accrington?
Its not that the dog is dangerous she just always seeks attention and wants to play. She doesnt like strangers as she was attacked once when she escaped. And as for taking possession of a dangerous dog she owns the dogs mum and this was the puppy that they kept.

Re: Dog training in Accrington?
Supposes its how do you mean nasty to strangers?
Have you ever seen The dog whisperer or dog borstal? there is some good advise given and tips to be picked up. Dog Whisperer: National Geographic Channel BBC - BBC THREE - Dog Borstal IMO a training lesson/s is all good but the basics can be learnt from a little research as the main principal is that she will have to do the training. Dog lessons can be expensive.:( Google is your friend.:) |
Re: Dog training in Accrington?
Speedy i would advice the lady to speak to her vet and get expert advice..I would also look into using a DAP(The Dog Appeasing Pheromone) calms stressed and anxious dogs and honestly they do work as ive used them on one of mine.Although he wasnt nervous or fearful..i do believe with the right advice this lady can turn the dog around it wont happen overnight she will have to put in lots of hard work and repertition but well worth it..good luck |
