Cute and creative ....

No, I'm not talking about me ... I noticed the other day that a new landscaping business has opened called "The Lawn Ranger." And I started to think of other businesses that had cute and creative names. There is a hairdressers called "The Mane Obsession," and a fish and chip shop called "The Contented Sole." We even have a church called "The Church of the Good Thief." It was built out of stone quarried by the prisoners at Kingston Penitentiary in the days when men were sentenced to hard labor. Are there any businesses in Accrington which have cute and cuddly names? The only one I can remember is The Load of Mischief ... ok, so it's in Clayton, but that's close enough.

Ringlets - I had them as a girl - went to bed with a head full of torn rags often.
Here's how to do it-

quote
Grab an old sheet or a couple of old t-shirts - it doesn't matter what the rags are made from, as long as they're natural fiber, and lint-free! For an average head of hair and for typically sized ringlets, you'll need about 40 rags. Cut or tear into strips about an inch wide and about 6 inches long (longer if you've got long hair).

If you have hard to curl hair, you'll also need some setting lotion or lightweight gel.

Shampoo and condition your hair as usual, and let it dry until it's barely damp. If your hair hates to hold a curl, fingercomb some setting lotion through it. If you don't have the time or inclination to wash your hair, use a mister to dampen your hair instead.

Section your hair into 1/2" - 1" sections
Take one of your rags, and lay it alongside a section of hair so that about an inch of the rag is above the roots.

Smooth the strand of hair, and wrap it around the rag in a spiral. Wrapping the hair tightly will give you tighter curls, Wrapping the spiral tighter (using less of the rag) will give you springier curls. Leave yourself at least an inch at the bottom of the rag.

Tie the two ends of the rag together making sure that the ends of the strand aren't sticking out anywhere, and you're done with your first rag! Finish up the rest of the sections of hair and tie them off neatly.

It's time for bed! Go ahead and sleep on your rags. If you left your hair a bit wet, you might consider putting a towel over your pillow - but make sure it's a well-used one, so you don't end up with towel-lint in your curls.

When you wake up the next morning, gently untie your rags - you'll end up with some wonderful sausage curls. A quick spritz of gentle-hold hairspray, and maybe a pretty scarf tied into a headband, and you're ready to head out the door with some great curls. If you'd prefer less obvious ringlets, gently comb through each curls with a wide-tooth comb once or twice, then through your whole head of curls.

Just saw another one today ... a salon called "Humin' Groomin'" ... I like that one, much better than "House of Hair" which for me conjures up visions of something built out of the mess that you pull out of your bathtub drain.

Just had a quick look in the phone book and found a few hairdressers, the names may not be cute but they are certainly apt. See what you think, Chopin-Bloc, A-Head Of Time,Bladerunners, Brush Strokes, Hackers and Head Case are a few of them. I think these are quite good.

Not bad. A-Head of Time is really good. Saw another one today "Altered Ego." Maybe there is something about hairdressers that makes them a little more creative.

I grieve for the old Load of Mischief, but tonite I had a drink at a bar called "My Bar." The owner couldn't think of a name. But "My Bar" is a name, and quite catchy too.

They both sound unpleasant ... but as I understand neither one I'll have to wait for an explanation:confused:

Came across another salon: Altered Ego. It seems that those who open salons tend to be very creative in their choice of names. Maybe in a business that is so competitive a cute original name helps bring in new customers.

Looking through the phone book it only seems to be people with creative proffessions that take the trouble. I was thinking a glazier could be called "It's A pane"

Just notice a sign that shows how stupid people must be getting. Canadian Pacific have started to put signs on their railroad crossings. "Warning: It Is Dangerous to Stop on the Tracks." I think that anyone dumb enough not to realize this deserves to be smucked by a fast freight.
