Someone give me a clue!

1 Attachment(s)
When it was still daylight I went out to put some rubbish into my bin, of all the rooms I have in my house my backyard has always been the tidiest one.

Imagine my suprise when as I lifted the wheelie bins lid I also kicked a piece of metal.

Hello I thought, that can't be right I'm no blacksmith, I don't store metal. I threw an inquisitive glance in the general direction where the scraping sound had finished.

An oblong piece of aluminium, (in case our over-seas bretheren are reading, A-L-O-O-O-M-I-N-U-M).

I reached down and grabbed the object and turned it over it had writing on the other side,

I read the words 'Countess St.'

Now I have in my very distant past arrived home with a few traffic cones and also the odd amber flashing light but I thought I had got over that habit some years ago.

o.k. so what is this and where has it come from?

I must confess I've never been tall or ambitious enough to try and get a street sign, so where is it from?
How come it ended up in my back yard?
Most importantly if you are missing a sign saying, 'Countess St.'
would you like it back and is there a reward?
If only there was some sort of clue I would return it to it's rightful owner!

Re: Someone give me a clue!

It looks like one that has been high on a wall so could a wind have dislodged it from the wall and it being al u min i um (I can't pronounce that word so have to type it very slowly.) maybe the wind whipped it up into the air and wafted it along to your backyard.

Hey, while we all work out where it's from, take a close look at the picture and name the switches just above the sign. (competition closes as soon as I press the submit button).

Still doesn't explain how it got in his backyard though Flashy .. mmm .. 'methinks' this needs reporting .. theft of public property and all that !
Or maybe, could attract an award form HBC for saving us Council Tax on a new street sign.. :D

Or maybe, put out for recycling .. now, which bag .. tins and plastics do you think ?

:D:D Well, yes, but not this one .. as far as I know the one I was referring to is still Secretary of State for Trasport.. mind you, don't think she agreed with a translation of street signs into Polish, but could have done a U-turn as politicians do.

Oh Cashy, you have now turned what I thought was a witty remark into a mundane explanation ...

Re: Someone give me a clue!

Turn right at the top of your block Less that is Countess St.Used to be a free-standing St sign at the bottom of Hyndburn St(could this be the one) I believe most of the area was built by Frederick Steiner who apart from the obvious also had a hand in the building of the Oak Tree pub.Maybe he was a count and the St was named after his wife In any event the old counts dead now and the new name of Popadom Way is on the cards

All streets run both ways, but just to update you all,

I actually walked along there this afternoon, and that is the place I left the sign at, (they have scaffolding up and have just had the side re-pointed).

They either run all the way through, or only as far as, though don't they? There aren't any streets which just start at Countess Street. Russia Street, Hyndburn Street, India Street only go as far down as Countess Street. Emma Street is further down but it's parallel so Countess Street is neither top nor bottom of that one.
