Have been to emergency dentist today but thats only a short term solution. I really do need my own dentist just struggling finding one.

Do you know the name of that one flashy?

Try Oaklea (or it could be Oakleigh) in Ossy.

Or don't....if you'd like to keep all your own teeth and not be in agony.

I've said this before on another thread. Two of my family had treatment there by foreign dentists who didn't seem to know what to do. It used to be a top place years ago but I wouldn't advise anyone to go there now. :(

If you call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 they have a service which should be able to tell you which practices are taking on new patients.

My dentist went private 4 years ago, since when it has cost me over £1000 for treatment, just another stealth tax:cool:

I'm really surprised you say that.

We struggled getting into a dentist for month's and month's. We finally got into this one in ossy, and I think they are brilliant ( mine is anyway ) She is very thorough. She was great with my 2 kids, took her time and really made them at ease.
I am petrified of the dentist but she was great with me too. I had a filling and she never hurt me once. Mine is called Catrina...like I said, not sure what the others in the dentist are like, but she is worth her weight in gold.

Im surprised too, always found them good even if they are foreign, i have lovely Miguel, he succeeded where other dentists failed getting rid of roots that should of been taken out years ago, even hospital dentist didnt do anything yet despite the pain, Miguel sorted me out without a problem & really makes sure u are ok, constantly making sure u are too throughout:D They are brill if u need emergency treatment very accommodating indeed.

I don't know how many dentists are working there but suffice it to say that there are two of them who are butchers. :(

I'm glad to hear that there is someone there who knows what they are doing but I have never been scared of the dentist and after what happened to my mum and my husband with two different dentists I don't feel like I dare trust anyone else there.

My husband doesn't know the name of the woman dentist he saw, it was the first time he'd seen her and she didn't speak good English so he couldn't make out a lot of what she was saying.

It was a man called Kurkowski (sp) who made a mess of my mum.

Catrina, my dentist, speaks very good English so it aint her who your hubby saw. I have only seen her, so not sure who you mean...me, hubby and kids are all with same person.

We all used to be with Mr Parry until he left to go private. We never had any problems at all with the place until he left. Then it all went wrong.

I remember I had to go for an emergency extraction one sunday 9 years ago. I was 8 month pregnant with my youngest son. I am petrified of dentist, and was shaking like a bloody leaf.
I saw a lady ( not sure of her name ) and I think she was more scared than me, though she was scared to death I was gonna give birth in her chair lol. She was fantastic with me. she put some gel on before the injection, so even that didn't hurt!! She was a real star!!

so when we got allocated into this dentist, I was chuffed to bits. I was talking to a friend of mine a couple of days before I had my appointment.
she said she was in this dentist, and hers was quite rough with her.....needless to say, night before my appointment, was a sleepless one :o But I had my filling, and everything was great. Which is a relief. AND I'm happy to say, they still use the pre-injection gel :D

Well I think Oaklea is good as well or I wouldn't have recommended it in the first place.

When I went after I'd chipped my tooth they were great with me and fixed it up nicely. Only cost £16 which I thought was reasonable - expected it to be more like £30.

I seem to remember Garinda having a horror story about Oakleigh too.

You can only speak as you find. It is good to hear that others have had no problems with the dentists there. They can't all be bad then. I only spoke up because two members of my family had botched work done at Oakleigh by two different dentists.

Personally, my trust in the place has been shot. That's all I'm saying.

Lilly 09-04-2008 21:42

Re: NHS Dentists

I'm not happy. After our horrible experiences at Oakleigh in Ossy we decided to leave the practice and have registered our family at Antley Villa. They only do private now so it's £11 a month for hubby and me but the kids go free. I didn't want to have to do this but, like I said, my confidence in Oakleigh has gone.

Hubby went for a check up at Antley Villa today. The dentist there examined the work he'd had done at Oakleigh and declared it to be a right old botch up.

He'd had work done to a chipped tooth at Oakleigh but it was not packed properly, bacteria are getting in and it's going bad. It's going to take 1hr and a half and cost £146 to make right.

I don't mind paying for work but it's got me mad that we are having to fork out twice. We paid for Oakleigh to fix the problem, they messed up and he was in a lot of pain. Now we are having to pay again to correct their shoddy work.

Complain Lilly, I would. The NHS have a procedure in place, which has apparently been standardised - Info here

Thanks for that, Bonnyboy. We will definitely be looking into that.

He's going to ring Oakleigh first and see what they have to say.
