Fed up-any ideas?

I keep getting 'clothing collection' leaflets n im peeved because i know they are a massive scam....i googled the "reg. NO ........" (made to look like a charity number) and i got lots of other posts on forums warning others instead of the info i was looking for.

I know this is a scam but is there anything else i can do about it apart from sign the petitions i found on google?

Maybe other people would like to sign it too?Heres the link.......

Petition to: Stop companies implying that they are doing charitable work when they are not..

I got one of those today Kit and I have just sorted loads of stuff out for Thursday's collection.

Got loads of room in my wardrobes now.

I leave body parts out in those for collection, and have never had any trouble, as they are quite sturdy.

D i've had 8 in the last few days, one came this morning and Reece put it straight into the recycle bag

Re: Fed up-any ideas?

Its getting stupid...i see loads of bags put out knowing its a scam-i might put my own leaflet through their letter boxes explaining how they are being conned......the biggest shame is that the people getting fooled are generous people that think they are giving to the needy.

it was on watchdog last year about these people, they take the clothes to other countries and sell them, i'm sure i or someone did a thread about this before

As it's probably illegal, I wonder if it is worth mentioning to the police, and let them know the collection day.

A fun thing to do would be to collect all the bogus leaflets/bags, fill a sack with them when there is a reasonable amount, then leave it on your step.:)

Report them to the licensing department at the council - all charitable collections are supposed to ask permission first unless they have a special exemption license.

That tells you everything flashy. Myself if I have any old cloths I send them to Age Concern. Charity cheats really get my goat, having me branch secretary of anational charity these scammers really do annoy me. I ones got a call from Asda asking me if we were having an official collection at their store as two people had asked if they could collect outside, luckily the manager knew me, but the towrags must have got the wind up and legged it before the law arrived

Re: Fed up-any ideas?

all our stuff gets distributed fairly around the charity shops in town, the bag posted through our door become bin bags:D

Re: Fed up-any ideas?

I got another one this morning - so I telephoned the licensing department at the council - the leaflet was from 'Helpmates Ltd' - a company not a charity and they do not have a license to collect with HBC.

The council have asked that if you get any leaflets like this through the door that you take them down to the offices on Cannon Street - they are trying to combat this problem and where possible (resources permitting) they are lying in wait for the collectors.

You can telephone Licensing on 01254 380616 or e-mail [email protected]
