Albion Pub, Clayton-le Moors.

Earlier this week, i went down Whalley Road in Clayton for the first time since mid November, and was very surprised to see the Albion pub on the canal bridge being gutted. It was owned by the Porter Brewing Co. a micro-brewery which also owns the Griffin pub in Haslingden. There are now no brewery signs outside or any indication of what its future holds. Does anyone know of the recent history of the Albion and its immediate future?

It used to be a hell of a druggie den back in the mid-seventies

Local legend has it that a copper got heaved over the bridge and into the cut late one New Years Eve, when he was asked to attend a disturbance there. Must have been about '86 when i heard that one, in my illicit drinking days. The tale seems too good to be true...urban myth maybe?

seventies?

I moved into Clayton around 15 years ago and was told then it was a druggies pub.. and so it was. plenty of arrests over the following years of sad little druggies in the pub. They didn't even have the brains to figure out that if it's well known to everyone that sad druggies use the place then the chances are they will get lifted...

More evidence that drugs fuddle the brain cells.

Slap a druggie... You know it makes sense :)

Is that an admission of guilt, Mr T? Or guilt by association?

A group of lads dragged a policeman from the Albion onto the canal bridge to throw him into the cut. But they were stopped from doing so by other Albion customers. which is perhaps aswell because he was unconsious at the time. Three people actualy got jailed for it.
