I know shops can get away ( to a certain extent) with advertising the wrong price
Have a ticket price on for 79p and at the till it is 99p, they don't have to sell at 79p
There is no law to say they must charge this

Although depends on what reputation they would like for their business

Re: Price Quoted on Net?

As far as I understand it, suprisingly goods or services that have been wrongly advertised aren't legally bound to be available at that price. A contract between seller and purchaser is only made when money has been exchanged.

http://www.hants.gov.uk/regulatory/t...g-images/q.gifAn item on display in my shop has been wrongly priced. Do I have to sell it at the marked price?

http://www.hants.gov.uk/regulatory/t...g-images/a.gifA price displayed on the goods is treated in law as an invitation by you to the customer to come in to do a deal. The contract is usually made at the till when the price is agreed. So if you have put the wrong price on an item you are not legally bound to sell at that price. Customers usually only complain when it appears that you are overcharging them!

However as a gesture of goodwill you might want to negotiate with the customer rather than losing them. Trading Standards could also investigate you if they had evidence that you were regularly misleading people about the price you were prepared to charge them. So you should do all that you can to ensure that your pricing information is up to date and correct.

Sure you are correct AccyLass .. have discussed this before, but like you said retail. Sure the same rules apply on the net (thought Cashy was after some curtaining at first LOL).

Needs MickMF (don't think quite got his name correct) .. he is the expert at this.

Anyway Cashy, if you can afford a cruise .. the extra £260 'aint going to bother you ... :p Just jealous really .. :D

Re: Price Quoted on Net?

The only exception I can think of, where sellers have been prosecuted for advertising wrong prices, are the Persian carpet shops in London.

Because a lot of tourists in London are from outside the E.E.C., they are able to claim back the V.A.T. on departure. A lot of these shops were prosecuted for displaying prices that didn't include the V.A.T., which is against the law.

I hope you find an even better, and properly advertised cruise, Cashy.

What dates are you looking for?

We could all search for bargains for you.

I've got a great deal on a ten day cruise leaving Hull on the 12th June next year.

PM me your details if interested, as I've got it on hold.:D

Re: Price Quoted on Net?

In retail, if prices are wrongly displayed, and the customer makes a nuisance of themselves, the item is removed from sale, and the store dont have to sell it to you at all, there many companies who actually use wrong price tactics to thier advantage, one of them is giving a price in large type, with a tiny, tiny, 'from' before it, in my line of work, companies advertise impossible to meet prices in thier advertising, this is just a ploy to get in the door, they never sell at the price advertised. I hope you find something cashy, we all know you are canny enough to be aware of the conmen.
