Airline Hand Baggage

Has anyone flown recently and can tell us what the rules are now about what you can and can't take. One concern we have are things like deodarants ?

Looked at various sites and it's all very confusing

We flew in Feb, and we were allowed 1 piece of handbaggage per person. No more then 100mls of liquids per person. So deordrants etc would have to go into your suitcase. Hope that helps.

I received my air line tickets yesterday, it gives you a list of what you can't take on the back of the tickets.

Is that 100ml total ?

We aren't taking suitcases, only hand baggage

We flew to Jamaica and it was very confusing too..as far as im aware you still cant take any fluids in hand luggage IE: drinks, shampoo etc and you cant take lighters or any sharp objects in handbags or hand luggage, deodrant has to be packed away in your suitcase...

I last flew in Febuary, and the restrictions have been relaxed sine I'd previously travelled in November.

However, I packed any liquids in my case, and not in the hand luggage, so don't know the exact rules.

What I do know is that you can now carry lighters on to the plane. They give you a small plastic bag to put them in before you go through security, so I suspect it might be the same for other small amounts of liquid.

There are still restrictions on hand luggage, it has to fit in a certain space, that they have on display in departures.

I'd check that out too.

different countries have different rules and different airlines have different rules.

Check with your airline dave what you can take and what you cant. There'll be a list somewhere on their website more than likely.

Okay, Slinky the stuff on the back is Prohibited items, things like bullets and explosives.
The latest on what you cn take can be found on the DFT website here:
Department for Transport - Airport security

Any liquids, ie deodorant, just stick in your hold luggage, thats not affected.

We flew in Feb and March. You can take fluids in your hand luggage but each fluid must be a maximum of 100mls volume in containers which hold no more than 100mls, with most airlines you can take up to a maximum of 1 litre in 100ml bottles. All of your fluids must be in a see through sealable plastic bag (these are available from the airport if you don't have one, but a sealable sandwich bag will do).

The definition of a fluid includes :- deodorants, moisturisers, lipsticks and balms, mascaras, vaseline type products. You can carry cigarette lighters on your person or in your clear bag.

If you are flying short haul ie. to Europe, then it is worth packing your fluids in your hold luggage as you are unlikely to need them on the flight. With baggage allowances though, it is worth buying your shampoos, conditioners, shower gels etc when you get there.

We went long haul so I took, a small deodorant, a small toothpaste, moisturiser & lip balm in my hand baggage so that we could freshen up on the plane and at transfer airports. I had a total fluid volume of 300mls in these separate containers. I had no problems at any of the airport security points with these items and that included Heathrow, Los Angeles, Sydney, Auckland & Hong Kong.

Hope this helps..:D

Thanks for all the replies. It's the deodarant one that is confusing us the most. Can we take spray deadorants in hand baggage. We aren't taking hold baggage so it's not an option.

Yes, you can but only the little ones under 100mls, you can buy them in superdrug in the section that sells travel size products.. My hand baggage deodorant is an aerosol and I had no problems getting it to the other side of the world..

I don't know about aerosols, but you can always buy deoderants in Boots, once you've gone through security. You can take on board liquids purchased in Duty Free.

hi there. yes i have flown recently from manchester to goa. you are not allowed any liquids and that includes creams ie; moisturisers etc over 15ml unless they are in a plastic bag ie put all your lotions potions etc you intend to carry on board with you in a zippy bag ( resealable sandwhich bags) and you will be fine. i didn't and got a hell of a bollocking from security. i only managed to keep my stuff because i pleaded ignorance and humbly apologised swearing never to do it again!!. hope this helps and enjoy your flight and holiday.
