I last went in about 3 years ago when my son's band played there.
I don't think it is too small for a meet - the lounge is bigger than the Stag lounge.

Lol, as you knew my Methodist grandparents, you can imagine their horror when my Dad started going in the Stop on his eighteenth too.:D

If we do have a meet there I'll be happy, as I can just roll across to my mum's.:D

I'll give you a leg over the fence.

I think it's a great idea.:)

The meet, not me helping you get your leg over.:D

Once went in a pub 40 odd years ago with some mates from Ossy, up on the tops somewhere, it was like going into someones living room , knitting on a chair and medicine pills on the mantlepiece is this the same place ?

If you go on Google earth and put in my postcode 'BB5 3BT UK' - you will see the playing field area - the pub is on the road named Fielding Lane and is on the corner at the back of Rhyddings Park

No, doubt it. It always thought of itself as a bit posh.

There's quite a few up the tops.

Britannia, Duckworth Hall, The Plough, The Shoulder of Mutton up Green Howarth? There's more but I've got my 1am quizzin' to do.:D

That's not really in Ossy, it's going down to Rossendale.

Could be the Coach and Horse, which is on 'the top road', on a bad bend in the road, high over the town, with great views from the back. Parking is bad, and you have to leave your car across the road.

Any good?

Come over, we'll go and find it, and you can buy me a pint...of vodka.:D

Right, thanks for all the info and reminiscences, folks. Sounds like the old place hasn't changed that much and, as there's no time like the present, I'm going in there with Cashy this coming Saturday afternoon around two. So, if anybody's in the vicinity and fancies popping in to say 'ow do, please feel free. Lolly, don't know if you'll be working then, but if you are, look out for a little old fella in a Stanley shirt - that'll be me! :D

Ron and Isabel were the licencees when I started going in back in the sixties, sadly Isabel died not to long ago, she was living in Merlin Court, its lways been my local or the place I used to to frequent every night 7 nights a week. Used to drink with Rindis' Mother and Dad, but can't remember him coming in, Worked behind the bar occasionally when Jim and Barbara had it, and did all the outside bars for a while, in fact I oncelooked after the pub whilst they went away for a few days, thats when I desided that y place was firmly at the other side of the bar:D
I haven't been in since Andy and Irene left, but may just have a look this summer now that there is no smoking, The pub has ot changed very much in forty years since they first knocked the walls down in the early 60s, before my time

I was one of a gang who drank in the Stop late 50's-earl;y 60s. I was probably there on Margaret Rothwell's 18th. I was certainly there on my 21st. About 3 yrs ago I went in again. I swear that even the pictures on the walls were the same. I shall visit again very soon. I wonder if they still sell OBJs? Pubs like this should be cherished.
