Is it gritty? Is your eye stuck together with goo in the morning?

I had this once and it felt like you described but the cloudiness was a yellow film of pus that I could peel off........vile. :(

It was conjunctivitis. I got some drops from my optician and it cleared up in 2 days. :)

I had some obscure disese once in one of my eyes, they became hypersensitive to light. Went to BRI and they misdiagnosed it, gave me some drops, 24 hours later i couldn't see anything in that eye. Had 3 injections "into" teh eyeball. some wierd steroids for 6 months ( I had to carry a card saying what I was taking and had to be wiened off them slowly). Surgeon said he'd never seen it in anyone under 75 before...

If its still painful tomorrow get to RBH

My eye was a bit like that last night, no clouding tho.

I found it had mattered a little during the night.

As the day has wore on, my eye has started to cloud when I blink, it's running ever so slightly at the moment and my eyelid has swelled, is red and a little tender.

I'm guessing a sty is going to come up.......not a clue how you treat it though.

I've got the same problem, Golden eye ointment is what I use.

Never had one before. Was just going to buy some eyewash or summat. Is Golden eye ointment a brand name, is that what the chemist will know it by?

It sounds to me like you might be developing a Stye.

MargaretR 27-05-2008 11:58

Re: my eye hurts

You might get it to come to a head and burst, if you dip a clean hanky in hot water and hold it against the lump (with eye closed of course).

It is like having acne in the root of an eyelash - not serious, but uncomfortable, and can cause blurred vision because the swelling presses on the eyeball and so distorts vision.

Antibiotics will get rid of it quick - the method above is a temp relief until you get to the doc

If you end up needing eye drops and cant find anyone to put them in for you Corker can do it....he works in a very well known opticians and has put eyedrops in for loads of people including me (and im not very good when it comes to drops-i keep flinching :( ).
His very gentle lmao.

MargaretR 27-05-2008 12:09

Re: my eye hurts

I was the same when I had this last year. I used the hot water method and it burst several times but kept filling again. I eventually resorted to antibiotics when the blurred vision had stopped me driving for 2 weeks - up to you - depends how severe the bacterial infection is whether just the hot water method will work.
Note - don't let your lad use the same towel as you do.

ps - don't wait as long as I did before seeing doc - some of my eyelashes fell out - antibiotic eye drops won't harm your digestive system

Re: my eye hurts

You can use a warm spoon to bring the stye to a head...and the beauty of the warm spoon is that a teaspoon usually will fit the eye socket nicely.......alternatively Golden Eye ointment may help...get it at the chemists...Failing that see your GP.

MargaretR 27-05-2008 12:26

Re: my eye hurts

I have just googled Golden Eye ointment because I remember once hearing that it contained mercury - glad to see that the ingredients are now changed to exclude mercury, and it is an antibiotic

Re: my eye hurts

They are nasty Emamum, aren't they. Used to get them when I was little, but luckily none since.

My mum always mixed a little Bicarbonate of Soda in the warm water ... seemed to be the answer to all types of things then ! Lots of people swear by tea bags... please do not try though .. don't want to be responsible for making it worse.

The antibiotics, like Margaret says, will only be in the form of eye ointment, which will allay your fears of side-effects from them.

It will soon become pretty obvious if it is going to develop into a stye, and if not definitely GP consultation. Hope it feels better soon.

Golden Eye is available as ointment or drops, most chemists sell it, ( I know we do) it's about £4.50 a throw.

Think they are about £7.20 now (or there abouts and no doubt i will be corrected) I havent had to pay for a prescription for years luckily, through not needing them and since being pregnant which made me exempt from paying for them but paid for one last week and was very very shocked at the price

Got some anti biotic eye drops for my eye today from Boots - £4.99, it tastes poop too. Somehow it seems to work its way from my eye to the back of my nose and throat….dunno what that’s all about :D

We got some antibiotic drops from boots the other week for Siobhan's conjunctivitus, they cleared it up in no-time at all. It usually takes at least a week with the stuff the doctor prescribes.

Hope your eye's better soon.
