Wood or metal?

Using the word engineer gives it away JB I don't think engineers work in wood:D:rolleyes:

Exactly what is it you want doing, whats the material, steel, brass, cast iron, stainless or what.

Want a 6mm hole, 50mm deep drilling in some 12mm bar, have to find some bar 1st, I'll see whats available at work on Monday, need 8 of them about 150-200mm long, steel or stainless, alloys will be too soft

Will they be already cut to length and faced off.

Depends on what I can find on Monday but hopefully - yes ;)
Sure we have a power saw but haven't got a lathe

Just had a thought - we have a stand drill, as long as I can clamp it vertically this would do the job wouldn't it

Yes if you have vice on the the drill stand, or an angle bracket you can clamp to.

Not very well. It is very hard to be accurate especially when you want to put 200mm bar sticking up out of the vice. Much better ans easier in a lathe.

What are the holes for and are they going in one or both ends?

What are the bars for as well while I am being nosey? :D

I'll try one on the stand drill and see how it goes

I have been looking for the 3 jaw chuck for holding the drill on the lathe and can't find it. We are in the process of refitting our workshop so you are asking at the wrong time or I would have done it for you no problem.

I will speak to one of the lads and see if he knows if we still have the chuck and if either of the lathes still works :)

Not really jaysay. I know several engineers who were quite comfortable turning wood and on a metalwork lathe too. Of course you had to grind a special tool but hey that’s what engineers do. Engineer things.
