Re: domestic waste removal?

I'm surprised council won't take them.
Sorry don't know who would but could somebody please remind me why we pay council tax again?!
Maybe some nice person on here will help you!

Re: domestic waste removal?

Its overflow from my bin because someone else keeps filling mine up .......... plus all the crap thats blown into my garden, theres about 12 bin bags now, its not all mine and its getting ridiculous.....

Re: domestic waste removal?

So, exactly what do the council expect you to do with it? This is a barmy situation.

Loz 04-07-2008 11:20

Re: domestic waste removal?

I'd suggest getting somebody to take you to the tip but i don't know if you have to pay or not?
Seems daft if you have to pay on top of council tax.

emamum 04-07-2008 11:23

Re: domestic waste removal?

The council told me to either take it to the tip or hire someone to do it....... ive got a chappy coming later to give me a quote.... hope its not much!

Re: domestic waste removal?

Just spread them around on Bin day.

Or wait until the bin men are on you back (or wherever) and ask them if they could take them to.

Re: domestic waste removal?

Maybe some kind AccyWebber with a truck could do it for cheaper. The flippin council should be doing it for free. If it's other people's rubbish that gets into your garden it's hardly your fault is it? Mind you I know that once it's in your garden they6 class it as yours and the street cleaners will not take it - which is why a lot of people just chuck it back over the garden wall again. Why should it have to cost you money to get rid of it?

Re: domestic waste removal?

Would have thought the council would be able to arrange a collection!!!

Try ringing the Environmental Health people ans see if they can help

derekgas 04-07-2008 11:33

Re: domestic waste removal?

Trucks and vans arnt allowed on many domestic tips, and where they allow it, you get charged.

Re: domestic waste removal?

A less environmentally conscious person would resort to fly tipping.

emamum 04-07-2008 15:31

Re: domestic waste removal?

tbh Willow given the amount of unused land (allotments etc) at the back of rothwell avenue that wouldnt be hard. All i would have to do is carry it to the end of my garden and chuck it over the fence...........

I'm not going to tho :D

Re: domestic waste removal?

Why not contact your Councillor and see if he/she can sort it out for you. Explain about others using your bin. You might as well make them do something useful ;)

Re: domestic waste removal?

Re: domestic waste removal?

emamum 04-07-2008 17:48

Re: domestic waste removal?

Re: domestic waste removal?

I think it's appalling that you should have had to pay for this.

emamum 04-07-2008 18:22

Re: domestic waste removal?

i'm not too impressed about it either!

I did call the council first and they said all i could do is either take them up to the tip myself or pay someone else to do it.........

WillowTheWhisp 04-07-2008 18:51

Re: domestic waste removal?

If I were you I'd be phoning the Daily Wail. ;)

Re: domestic waste removal?

Can't believe you had to pay somebody to take them away,it's scandalous what the council get away with!

Re: domestic waste removal?

OK let's try to look at this logically (dons quizzical expression and pointed ears).

The council declares that we must only have one wheelie bin worth of rubbish per household each fortnight.

Q. Why?
A. The council proclaims that if we have more than one wheelie bin worth of rubbish per fortnight this is because we are not recycling enough and putting recyclable waste in with our residual waste.
Therefore in a bid to ensure that we recycle everything we can possibly recycle they refuse to remove any more than one wheelie bin worth per household per fortnight (unless we have prior permission to 'create' more waste).

Flaw in the argument:
We do not 'create' the waste. We do not want the wretched waste but we have it foist upon us in various ways and we are left to dispose of it as responsibly as possible.

What happens to this residual waste? It goes to the tip and ends up in landfill.

Emma has a lot of rubbish in her bin which other people have dumped there. She also has a lot of rubbish in her garden which people have dumped there or which has found its way there due to having been dropped by bin men when they empty other people's fortnightly regulation allocated one-per-household wheelie bin. She is not allowed to bag this up and request that the council remove it to the tip.

Why? Because she would then be exceeding the one-per-household wheelie bin allocation.

Now let us remind ourselves why we are only allocated one per household (without prior arrangement) - in order to encourage us to recycle more.

But this load of rubbish is not recyclable!

Furthermore, they have advised Emma that she can take it to the tip herself, or pay someone else to take it to the tip for her where it will end up in exactly the same landfill site as it would have done if the regulation council approved bin men had just taken it away on bin day!

No, try as I might I just cannot see the logic in that at all -(Removes pointed ears and replaces quizzical expression with one of sheer disbelief in the insanity of council jobsworths.)

Re: domestic waste removal?

Some kindly neighbours have just been to my door asking if I get the Lancs. Telgraph as seemingly the dates of the strike for refuse collecters are in there.. can't find on internet myself. Just know, where I am in Clayton, means I will lose a green bin collection on the 16th July and grey bin on the 23rd commencing again on the 30th July.

Presume will be in the Observer next week.

derekgas 05-07-2008 15:21

Re: domestic waste removal?

must be striking for more work and less pay surely?

WillowTheWhisp 05-07-2008 15:21

Re: domestic waste removal?

Oooh thanks Kate. I'd forgotten about that. Do you reckon they will refuse to take the excess we consequently accumulate?

That is what I was wondering Willow .. will have to really squash things down in our bins and sacks ..

Seemingly, no mention of the tip ... so not sure whether they are joining in or not ? Are they employed by the council though .. aren't they privately owned by a French company ? Not sure, so stand to be corrected.

i would walk up to the bin wagon and throw it in, what will they do? Take it back out? It is all we can do to put it in the wagon, so I doubt it.

I have just tried, yet again to get a green bin for my garden waste, but was told there are none in my area - regardless of the fact that I have a large garden with several trees and shrubs. I was told that I could fill up to six bags per month, which would be collected, but it's not easy trying to get twigs and rosecuttings into a plastic sack!

Why not composte it. They were doing free composters the year before last I think. They may still do I dont know. Unfortunately I found out about the freebies a few days after I bought my own.

Just a thought. :)

I already have two compost bins, they are both full - and I have a compost heap, it's like a jungle out there!

Re: domestic waste removal?

Are you one of those people the council claim doesn't have a garden when you can see plants and shrubs and grass outside your window?

ossylass 13-07-2008 20:39

Re: domestic waste removal?

That's right, Willow, I have a large magnolia tree, 2 apple, 3 cherry and one pear tree and loads of raspberry canes - not to mention shrubs and flowers- which all need cutting back every year and yet I can't have a green bin!

accyman 17-07-2008 04:47

Re: domestic waste removal?

there are areas with very small gardens or just a small rear garden in ossy that are declared garden areas yet people in accrington who have front back and side gardens are not classed as garden areas so dont qualify for a bin , a lot of these houses in accrington were built by the council so they know damn well they have gardens but are at the lower end of the council tax bill unlike the more posher houses in ossy

someone sure looks after the wealthier up the posher part of ossy , could it possibly be a tory councilor wanting to keep his voters happy

nah thats just silly whos ever heard of tories only looking after the better off people that could never be the case
