You familiar with the saying "Mutton dressed as lamb." My mom once used it to describe someone she despised.:D

Willow i spoke with my daughter today and she confirmed that post number 5 is spot on.......post number 8 though is not right.......if a cow is going to be sent for slaughter then the farmer will not have that cow 'served'...and many cows are done artificially these days so that the farmer knows when they are due to calve with more accuracy......it is uncommon for bulls to be allowed access to cows in an unsupervised manner when the natural method is used.
Therefore no cow should be in calf when sent for slaughter.

I know when my hubby worked in the stockyard(many years ago) it used to happen.....but daughter assures me that she never saw anything like that whilst she worked in the trade.....and for the reasons given. In any case you would dispose of the internal organs(those which cannot be used) without opening the uterus to find out....the internal organs are sprayed with indelible dye so that they cannot be used for human consumption.

Surely any animal with a thick skin can produce a 'leather' - like kid goats produce the leather for kid gloves. Different quality for different purposes. I was just talking with a class of schoolchildren today about the differences between deer hide and buffalo hide. I'm still pretty sure that plenty of leather comes from cows.
