XL Airways........
Did any Accywebbers have flights booked with XL Airways......? we did for next August, luckily its covered by Visa and even more luckily .....we are not stranded in a foreign country like thousands of others......:(

Re: XL Airways........
We went away with XL earlier this year and there were obviously problems - we were told by the owner of the apartments that we stayed in that XL never paid its bills on time.

Re: XL Airways........
I went on one of their Malta holidays, I booked for 4 weeks but came home after 2.
Restaurant hygiene was horrendously awful. I got bad 'trots' - some guests got hospitalised. I wont miss that holiday company:eek: |

Oh dear....we only ever book flights so luckily we are usually `Trot` free as we have our own accomadation |
Re: XL Airways........
I've never been able to understand where the line is drawn between 'bad business' and fraud , its one thing to get overtaken by unforseen circumstances , but its quite another to keep on trading with a business plan that says oil/fuel costs will be X , when the truth is fuel costs are three or four times your projections , and to just keep taking monies from customers to pay off old debts is nothing more than a pyramid scam ....which I believe is illegal

Re: XL Airways........
Nik's friend was going to Florida, with her partner and their daughter and her parents, next month with XL. They paid by credit card so they will be reimbursed, thank goodness, as they've paid over £5000. I feel so sorry for those who've lost their money and also those who are/have been stranded abroad. It's the usual story, by all accounts, this firm has been in trouble for some time but they've kept on taking bookings, in other words clients' money, right up to the day before they collapsed.
MargaretR, please do tell where you stayed in Malta that was so dire. I'm only asking out of sheer nosyness, I know it's not where I stay. :D |
Re: XL Airways........
Westender I heard they were still taking money off people the day before, it is an absolute disgrace. You can bet the directors aren't going without their holidays

If it has been a package holiday, then more than likely it will have been ATOL protected. |

Seems a fairly common thing, a company I mentioned a short while ago were taking money the day before they went out of business, even though they knew they had £320,000 of debt, the owners still have a million pound house the other side of clitheroe, a house in America, a shop premise in accrington, and the building they went out of business in, that is up for sale at £750k despite only costing 170k 5 years ago, this was an accrington based business btw, so the money has come from the people of accy and surrounding areas! |
Re: XL Airways........
Those who have paid on their credit card will get reimbursed too......those who paid using debit cards won't be so lucky...unless it is a VISA debit card....they have a system called 'chargeback' which will allow for the cost to be paid back to the user.......any other debit card(like Maestro/Mastercard) and you are out of luck.
