Why they have done that is a joke. Main roads are clear and getting better all the time. I could understand it if weather got worse (almost). Any teachers that could not get in probably could now.

Update from my daughter in Dewsbury today .. LOL ... still hasn't been able to get her car out:-

December 04
Snow

I woke up this morning, crossed the landing and could see the snowflakes spinning unpredictably in busy eddies’ from an infinite white sky, Right across the valley was an unsullied film of luminous purity.
Flurries of snow in a blizzard rushing by the windows from a cushiony white sky creating a magical vista through the window.
The whole of the outside has a thick downy covering of snow; a curtain of tiny white whispers continues to fall down peacefully and consistently.

And I just know it’s going to be a (expletive) journey to work

Interesting to see how easy it is to get about from all those who live in the lowlands :D

I've just spent an hour digging tracks along the street to get the car off, and before anyone suggests walking, tried that first, it's horrendous underfoot, and you if you walk down Willows Lane you get drenched in slush from moronic drivers who think it's funny to go hell for leather through the slush

I made sure we had provisions in yesterday because I heard the forecast and knew all the shops would be shut today ;)

Enjoy your dried whale blubber.

You keep safe, and away from that slush.

Garinda how exactly did you have no fresh snow? I was in a taxi at around 3am going past your neck of the woods and it was chucking it down with the white stuff!

Heavy rain is forecast for Monday.

Might as well keep all the schools closed until after the Christmas holidays now, for fear of flooding...or people getting splashed by cars going through puddles, on unnecesarry journeys to school, or work.:D

I was up playing Scrabble at 3am, and it was raining, with a bit of sleet mixed in. There is now new snow down here in central Ossy.

Besides, I'm not denying it hasn't snowed on higher ground.

I just think unless all the roads are closed, and there are four foot snowdrifts, it seems a bit unproductive to close schools.

What happened to British grit and determination, and the spirit of Dunkirk?

How do you expect that the "education website" is more up to date than broadcasting via local radio

At 7.30 morning there were in excess of 100 schools who had decided not to open, the information channel is by local radio that is how both schools (via passwords to the radio station) and parents are informed will happen. I'm not aware that it's ever been the expectation that the "education website " was the first point of contact
