Re: Dogs Homes

Aspden Valley have a kennels, but I'm not sure if they only take in from the Dog Warden. I got my rescue dog from there.

I'll just look for the number for you, no harm in ringing and asking is there?

Re: Dogs Homes

I find that the RSPCA is always too full, which is why they allow offers of pets on Hyndburn Freecycle so that there are at least 1300+ more people that see an animal is in need of a home. It seems that there are lots in need of rehoming at Christmas, heaven knows what its going to be like Jan/Feb :(

Why do they not want it any more - is it a pain in the backside or just a change in circumstances?

Just playing catch up.

Neil - It's a tenancy issue, she doesn't actually want to let the dog go, she has to.

Panther - It's an American Staff

Thanks to the others for the various contact details, I'll pass them on.

Re: Dogs Homes

american staff? - they are not a recognised breed in the uk..

American staffordshire terriers are prohibited in the UK under the dangerous dogs act, American Staffs are classed as Pit types in the UK - therefore illegal and at risk of being seized by the police.
vets and probably every rescue dog centre worker know what they are/look like and if they get one handed in it will be lucky to survive a week as it will be taken by the police and put to sleep.
you can of course tell them its not one but you may find it very hard to prove it if there are no papers with the dog stating its something else - you will find it very hard to convince any vet, dog home or the police if thats the case

Re: Dogs Homes

Just Googled it and found they are banned in the UK, apparently the same as a pittbull

Re: Dogs Homes

I'm only the messenger and I have to admit when I asked and the reply was American staff I did ask the question about them being banned. I'm no expert on dogs it looks like one of the 'angry' breeds but have to admit it's as soft as muck. Anyway I've done my bit and it's up to the owner to sort it out now, but I will pass on my concerns expressed on this thread.
