is there such a thing as a cheap and decent kitchen?
 

I know the saying 'you get what you pay for' and I do believe in it to a certain point.
I am toying with the idea of getting a new kitchen soon and I wouldnt like to spend any more than £8-900(ish)... but would I get value for money for it??
I would only be looking for the base units to go round it, worktops, sink and built in hob..
to give an idea of size...well its just a normal 2 bed terrace house sized kitchen...

so does anyone know of a company who supplys quality kitchen for a good price ?

Are you going to fit it yourself or have it fitted?

I had my kitchen done, nearly 7 years ago, by the now-defunct MFI. All the units are Hygiena but they supplied and fitted them, including cooker, cooker hood and dishwasher, incorporating my own fridge-freezer and drawer-freezer. The units are floor and wall (also a couple of glass-fronted wall cupboards) in white and they still look very good, though I'm thinking of renewing the worktops with granite ones.

The whole lot cost around £4000 at the time, 2002, and I was very satisfied.

Judging from the response you recieved from the website thread, I doubt that even the most qualified tradesman would think twice before replying.
If anyone is qualified and willing to carry out this job it might be a good idea to contact GG by PM.....If you offer your services on open forum the smart arsed brigade kick in...and that helps no-one....good luck. :(

Design your own layout - you can print off graph paper online
Buy and assemble the flat packs yourself so that a joiner will spend less time fitting them
Employ seperate craftsmen to install electrics and plumbing
It is when you use a 'kitchen fitting firm' that costs escalate

I am quite capable of building the units myself and do the tiling...we are only looking for the base units and worktops at the least..have already bought the big electrical things..

Dont be so bloody toutchy.....you are old enough to accept a statement that is meant, without barb as you call it.
Is it worth the effort....I will consider if I am wasting my time on here.

We had to replace our kitchen units when we were having the house done up - so we bought a "temporary kitchen" from ikea -
6 wall units (90cm length)
5 normal base units ( two with sets of drawers)
1 tall larder unit
1 double base unit with rotating pull out shelf
sink and supplies
price of doors included in cabinets plus a hood for over cooker
and worktops
all came to about £600 plus £50 delivery (which is cheaper now as we have one closer) we were planning on buying a better quality one - but 4 years later it is as good as new so why bother - so long as you put them in correctly and don't take shortcuts I don't think you would have a problem.

yeah just keep an eye out for a kitchen manufacturer going out of buisness there should be plenty due to shut down if things carry on the way they are doing ;)

I actually shake my head sometimes when I see the price these so called kitchen and bedroom fitting firms charge, its a total rip of. It goes to show what a bunch of con artists they are when you see adverts saying 70% off in the sale, and you can bet they still make a profit on that too. No doubt these firm will be feeling the heat during this Credit Crunch, 'm not against anybody earning a decent living but these people take the P

Are you getting at me about your spelling just because i corrected a certain person who thinks he is the Lord of the website around ossy anyway think he must be the oldest resident here he thinks he knows everything about anything and knows nothing.
