Do You Think An Age Gap Is A Problem

Do you think people should only date people of there own age? I only ask as i member of my family is dating an older lady and i wondered what the general thoughts of this forum are on people dating older people?. What would be too much of an age gap? 10 years?. :hidewall:

Re: Do You Think An Age Gap Is A Problem

Don't think it matter really, its how the people concerned feel about each other. My second wife was 9 years younger than me but it didn't bother me at the time. However, we did split up and she went of with another bloke, who was 9 years older than me:D

Re: Do You Think An Age Gap Is A Problem

Ten years seems a lot when you are young but the older you get the less it matters, because people age at different rates, and counting years lived, gives no indication of health, fitness or anything else for that matter.

I don't think an age difference makes much difference, as long as both parties are over sixteen, otherwise it is illegal if one is and one isn't.;)

Re: Do You Think An Age Gap Is A Problem

There are 20yrs between my husband and me and although at times the age difference peeps through it nevers causes any serious problems. I am very happy with him and he with me. My children saw me go through a weary 1st marraige so when I met my 2nd Hubby they were more than pleased so long as I were happy.
So in answer to your question .... No it isnt a problem. Not if you dont want it to be.:alright:

Re: Do You Think An Age Gap Is A Problem

Its only a problem if you make it one i think

My ex husband was 15 yrs older than me (although mentally im convinced he was a lot younger than me!!) That obviously didnt work but the age gap never really was an issue to me.

My current fella is 7 yrs older which isnt much but isnt an issue

Must admit though, when i was 15 and my fella was 19 that did seem like an issue to many. The relationship did last for 7 yrs but i grew up, he didnt :D

I know of a few relationships where there is a large age gap, one is a 30 yr age gap but that is no problem to them and shouldnt be to others.

So long as your happy it makes no difference how old you both are

I don't think there is a problem as long as the people involved are happy
Which of course they would be or wouldn't be dating

My mum has a fella that she has been with for almost 10 years now and he is 18 years younger than her

Thats exactly the same as me and my missus........although for part of the year there is a 5 year gap(lol):D

Re: Do You Think An Age Gap Is A Problem

For me, I'd say 5 years both ways is enough...my fella is younger than me, but only by 15 months, for me i would not, at my age now, go with a 45 year old fella or a 25 year old....anything 30 to 40 is fine, but that is if i was single:D

Re: Do You Think An Age Gap Is A Problem

Having had twenty five happy years with Ian who was fourteen years older than me I would say age gap relationhips can and do work. The problems are caused by outsiders who can't get their head round the fact that two people of different ages can be happy. Maybe they are the ones with the problem but at the end of the day it is nothing to do with anybody else.

Re: Do You Think An Age Gap Is A Problem

My hubby is only one year older than me.

Personally I wouldn't feel comfortable with a fella who was a lot older or a lot younger than me but that's just me.

As has been said, if the couple concerned are happy with each other, I can't see a problem.

I don't see a problem if the relationship is based on mutual love and respect. It's only the rather silly people, ladies in particular, who fall for much younger non-Britons on holiday and bring them here, give them all their money then get dumped.

Don't think its just a problem with "women of a certain age" , it also applies to men in middle and late-middle age who think its a good idea to hook up with/marry some nubile 17/18 yr old who they fall in love while on holiday in the far-east . The excuse being 'these women know how to look after a man, not like the women at home' . ;)

Re: Do You Think An Age Gap Is A Problem

I think everyone imagines that being the same age is the ideal because you've been through the same period in history, fashion, music, politics etc. I think it's the ideal because you've this shared connection before you even get started.

But the truth is (speaking as a person who has just spent the last 12 years with someone 10 years younger) that this is only part of the attraction and only part of the reason it could work. And when it all boils down to it, it's only a small part of it.

There are times when Chris will ask a question that is age related i.e. what was the general mood of the country when Thatcher was elected (or something like that) and of course, I'll speak from experience, for example I saw the first moon landings and he didn't. And sometimes I'll say something about a pop group and then say, oh, you were too young to remember them.

But the majority of the time - 99.9999999% of the time, we're talking about work today, the kids, what's going on in Ossy, politics etc.

It's who we are, what we've done and who we've become that makes it work right here and now for us.

So, that was a very long winded way of saying - age doesn't matter one jot if you're happy.

wow... you have some very intelligent conversation in your house... most conversation in my house revolves around ben 10 and sonic the hedgehog

i know its not an issue at the moment, since he is only 7 but i dont think i would ever be comfortable with a fella around the same age as my son (when he is older i mean obviously) i tend to go for the older guys anyway.

Age doesnt matter as long as the people involved are happy with it.

Instead of thinking that - you should be thankful that she most likely educated you on how to please a woman and you should regard that experience
with gratitude

Cashman and darwendosser were Slingers 'butcher boys' together.
Both are more wrinkly than is expected for their age.
But this is compensated for by having a sweet nature, so don't let it put you off eating plenty of red meat.
