Whats the best piece of advise you were ever given

Whats the best piece of advice anybody has ever given you?
I think mine was from my Dad on the night before I started work, he told me that when anybody is trying to teach you anything never say I KNOW, because they may never tell you out again. The thinking behind that statement was that he said he was still learning (he was 42 at the time)and would be until the day he died and that has stood me in good stead over the years

My manager said that to us a couple of months ago on nights. The ironic thing about him saying it was that he was the one causing us the problems :D:D:D

The best advice I have had was....'find something you enjoy doing, then get someone to pay you to do it'......and I did.
I trained as a nurse and enjoyed a very fruitful and satisfying career.

Parental advice.

Hold your head up high.

You're as good as anyone else.

No better, no worse.

Ah go on risk it, tell the real truth instead of your version, for a change.

Perhaps you might be interested in my new Social Group? Just look under Community, ( a word strange to your vocabulary but I'm sure Wikipedia can give you your version of it).

I'm not saying your a liar, it would just make a nice change if your truth agreed with everyone else's now and then, that would really be a novelty.

The wall was there to stop the exasperated phlegm that I was expecting, as usual you never disappoint, but it's been a nice quiet month off, watching you get hot under the collar with, and insulting everyone else instead of me.

If your friends jumped off a bridge, would you?

Always wear clean knickers, just in case you get knocked over by a bus.

And the one I mostly live by -
When you get to the end (of your life) only regret the things you've done, don't regret not doing something.

I worked for someone once who's advice was "BullS### Baffles Brains", a saying he picked up in the army I think..... Now that I'm working in the IT world of acronyms it's saved me on more than one occasion.

The advice I gave to my daughter the other day though was "dont eat yellow snow". Since I told her though, all the snows melted.

Re: Whats the best piece of advise you were ever given

Since starting uni I've wrote down all the advice and encouragement I'm given so that when I'm feeling down I can refer to it and it cheers me up.

Most of it is related to work... I'll tell you some below...

'Impressions count'
'Catch the ball running'
'Smartness rather than genius'
'Don't be intimidated'

One of my favourite sayings ever which my personal tutor at Uni exposed me to was one by Arthur Quiller-Couch who penned the idea of murdering or killing your darlings. Its mostly a term used by writers who get in the pattern of writing the same things over and over again (personally that makes me think of Stephen King...) but basically it is saying get out of your comfort zone and try something that isn't necessarily your norm.

I'm currently murdering a huge darling of mine and I'm loving it so I definitely think that is an excellent one.

Not long after I arrived in Canada, I received this practical advice: "Make sure it's a god damned deer before you pull the trigger." Good advice in a specific sense; and if it is viewed more metaphorically, it could be applied in a more general sense.;)

I like this one ... I think that Lincoln said something similar .... imagining celebs sitting on the flush, straining at a big dump, somehow makes them more like the rest of us;):D
