Mopeds/scooters???
As most of you will know i dont drive.....yet.
Been looking round and TBH i dont think i can afford a car, so decided to be a bit different and have a look at some mopeds/scooters. Now at this point your probably thinking im daft but..... ....1. Scooter is a brand new 08plate for £1600 (a lot cheaper than an 08 plate car) 2. Insurance quote fully comp £300 (3rd party F&T £260) 3. Fuel consumption is practically non-existant (a fiver will last ages) 4. I have found a 70cc cylinder kit and a few other performance mods to make it a bit more interesting than your average ped. 5. Does no claims earned on a ped count when i go for a car policy? if not is any discount offered for increased road knowledge?. This is the ped im looking at http://www.peugeotmoto.co.uk/images/...ht_lr_grey.jpg So has any had experiences with a ped? good points bad points? and just general opinions welcome. |

Re: Mopeds/scooters???
I think its a good move. I use a Quad alot around my garden and can only advise that you spend your extra money on a helmet and not mods for your scooter!.
My Helmet has saved my life!. Any after market mods you fit as a general rule will invalidate your insurance, not all mods obviously but if you play around with the horsepower etc then your insurance is null and void in the case of any claim and these days the insurance companies do check. The Rocket Centre do some great deals, CBT test is included in some of there deals and they have loads of helmets, just buy the best you can, you cant purchase another head in the case of a crash and DONT BUY A SECOUND HAND HELMET as you never know whats happened to them. Insurance companies, try Falcon Insurance, there much cheaper than Bikesure. Include in your budget a chain & lock £100 + as it needs to be insurance rated and its the only thing stopping your pride and joy being stolen. |

Helmet is something i had already thought of, not an area where saving money is priority really (as you said you only get one head lol). Must admit i hadnt really thought much about the security, planning to keep it in the kitchen (not told my mum yet though lol) so doubt it will get nicked from there, but i will at some point have to park it up somewhere not as secure so a lock does sound like a very good plan:mosher:. As for the mods id always check with the insurance company before doing anything to it to find out how much extra they want to cover the mods. Cant say i had heard of falcon insurance but ill have a nosey:D. Been offered a second hand ped for £400 very tempted at moment. |

If you are only 16 you can only have 49cc bikes. A decent helmet can cost as little as 100 quid. Be warned that different makes have a different inetrnal shape so malke sure you buy one that fits rather than one that looks good. Shoeis dont fit me but arais and caberg do. Good waterproofss are essential in this country and make all year round use much more pleasant. Hein gericke do good value and quality gear. |
