Travelodge Blackburn or Burnley
Hi All
Can anyone please advise me as to which of the two travelodges would be the best to stay in for about 4 nights, Blackburn would be my preference but would go to Burnley if there is a big difference. I know they are cheap and basic but if they are run down and dirty I won't bother and look elsewhere. I going back to sunny Clayton/Accy for a birthday party (my first visit for about 3 years and looking forward to it!!) and the Dunkenalgh want too much for midweek stays. Any other (clean!!) suggestions would also be appreciated Many thanks |

The thing I like about them is that you pay as you check in and no hassle with queing up at reception to pay your bill before departure next morning. Always parking spaces of course. |

Re: Travelodge Blackburn or Burnley
There's a new Holiday Inn Express in Burnley at J10, same turn-off as the Travelodge.

Re: Travelodge Blackburn or Burnley
I stayed at Holiday Inn Manchester airport a few years ago - lovely, but it was dearer than Travelodges

Thing is, if you have any problems with your room, ask to see the Housekeeper, they are a proud lot. |

The Maple Lodge - Guest House, Clayton le Moors, Accrington
This one seems nice enough, never stopped there, only driven past :D |
Re: Travelodge Blackburn or Burnley
Thanks all for your help. Blackburn would be better for me as it is nearer to my wife's family and meals are not a problem as we would be eating out with them or friends. As long as the place is clean and the beds are OK then that is all we need. It is just that I have heard recently about some Travelodges being run down so was checking if anyone knew if those two were OK

I stayed in one outside Bristol, that was quite old and was disappointed as of all the 100's I have stayed in, this definately needed refurbishment. |

I prefer the Holiday Inn Express because of the power showers :D. and the facilites usually are better, but as Margaret says, slightly higher price. I seem to recall the Stanley lot mentioning a B&B near the football ground thats okay. The Maple Lodge doesn't ring a bell so it might be another one. |

Ok ... I know I shouldn't find it strange, but the big hotel chains you mention seem to have a large slice of the hotel market ... we have a Travel Lodge, a Holiday Inn, and a Holiday Inn Express, Howard Johson etc. ... hotels are becomming a lot like fast food:mad: |
Re: Travelodge Blackburn or Burnley
Well, maybe the ones in Canada Eric .. never been, but if anything like America, the hotel chains you mention are the ones that dominate (like their crappy food chains). Here, in England, we have small n large groups and still many independently owned country/city hotels.
The Travelodges/Holiday Inns/Premier of this world are mainly aimed at business travelers and families who really only wish to stay one night, and are good value for money. Of course, groups like Holiday Inns, have 3 categories of hotels. Oh hell, could go on all night .. but you will only glaze over, and I'm sorta' retired now. Maybe now I should concentrate on something I have never done in my life as would not be mixing business with pleasure which I never believed in. Yes, perhaps should start a thread now on things you have never done and will set out to do .. :D:D |

Come to think of it, that wouldn't be a bad idea for a thread. |

Re: Travelodge Blackburn or Burnley
Thank you all for your suggestions which have given me a task to sort out this weekend. I knew that I could rely on friendly northeners to help me out, that is the one thing I missed when I moved away. Look forward to posting more in future
