Fire Surround.....
 

Any suggestions on where to find a cheap fire surround, I hate mine (other people seem to like it but i dont) I dont like the fire either but cant really afford a new one of them (plus would have to get permission from hyndburn homes to have a new one installed i think :() I am looking for something modern and simple looking. (I think the fire and surround let my living room down, other than toys everywhere Im more or less happy with it lol)

Well if you havnt, you will have a boiler somewhere, you will have problems getting a fire surround on there if you are wanting a hearth and marble panel (fire is in wrong place, the cut out in the marble is bigger than standard), a fire surround may be ok, but will have to be either cut to fit to the wall, or cut the skirtings back to suit, I can have a look for you if you want, we get quite a few surrounds through the showroom, which are normally thrown out, I would need an idea what to look out for.

Would be great if you could have a look please :D you have more of an idea than me - I have no idea at all lol - All I know is what i have is ugly :D

And i think the boiler is there, well hear something firing up from that direction from time to time lol

I will call round, will give the neighbours something new to talk about!! You are beginning to get a 'typical woman' tag, you have some good ideas, but usually damned expensive! :D

I am in the middle of ripping out my old fireplace to make way for something new..and I found a back boiler in mine - which I didnt know was there:rolleyes:...

back boiler is out this weekend...new breast being built and plastered also this weekend..

always hated that fireplace !

my neighbour ripped hers out and bought a cheap wooden one and painted it with crackling paint whatever that is ... and it looks nice .. when shes decorated she also repainted the surround.

Nice choice GG, Gallery highlighted Crown casting, Bedford mantle, black granite hearth by the look of it, some of the 'engines' (the fire part) for these are pretty good now, and will be better next year when the efficiency rules change.

I am getting the limestone version of that surround..which comes complete with a limestone hearth but I prefer the granite with it to be honest..as in the pic above..

Oy! Stop advertising the competition cos you get discount! :p 2 out of three isnt bad I suppose, you probably know already, but I would seal the limestone with something like thompsons waterseal, that way, the female relatives will never ruin it with red wine! :D

I know about the water seal but to be honest having spilt worse than red wine on limestone hearths etc at work we use neat bleach on some heavy stains etc and it lifts them out no bother after leaving over night.. - even takes permanent marker out also if caught quick enough..
and the reason for the granite hearth appeals to me cos its wipe clean !

I have used bleach, and bleach and flour as a poltice, both work, just prefer prevention to cure, granite is also porous isnt it? and can be marked failry easily, beeswax seals granite, and granite will stand the weight of the casting better than stone, and will look great, good choice mate, not that I would expect anything else from you! :rolleyes:
