Tyres
Where is the cheapest place locally to buy tyres from? I need 2 new tyres and i know they wont be cheap to replace but need to find the cheapest place to buy them and have them fitted.
Anyone any suggestions?? |
Re: Tyres
We go to Empress Motors on Ellerbeck Road, they are resonably priced and have cheaper options too... If you want to give them a ring the number is 01254 236609

Re: Tyres
Have a look HERE 1st to get an idea on the price for the tyre sizes you want, I got two fitted to mine recently, shopped around a bit and found THESE give me the best deal, have used them a few times in the past too, places I compared prices with were - Baxenden - Ossy tyres - T. Blanks and the place that used to be the Greyhound pub at Church
PS - dont accept his 1st price, you can knock him down a bit :D Yeah as Retlaw says DONT buy cheap tyres, buy good tyres at the best price you can find |
Re: Tyres
Van Zuylen's on Concession St. .... and they will check your brakes and suspension at no extra charge when they install the tires .... and when winter comes along they will give you free installation on your winter tires .... and how come you guys can't spell?;)

Cough they can be rather expensive. But when its just 4 tiny patches of them that are the difference between stopping in time or hitting that child. . . . Tell me you would rather save a few quid then. |

What size are you looking for emzy? |
Re: Tyres
I'm after 205/45/R16's
And the £40+ ones were the cheap cheap ones, which i don't really wanna buy. 95% of the time my kids are in the car with me, which is why i dont want part worn or remoulds, because of my childrens safety, wouldnt risk it over a few quid to be honest |

Don't forget to get the correct speed rating

Re: Tyres
doesn't matter, its about weight, power, etc. just cause you don't drive fast do you think my 300bhp 4WD 2.5 tonne car would be safe on skinny low rated tyres?
Blackcircles are doing Kumho KU16s for 57 quid fitted which is a good deal, mytyres.co.uk doing Nankang NS2's ( I used these on my Volvo and they are very good) at 47 quid but with fitting you are looking at similar to teh kumhos Bash tyres usually price match on these as well. |
Re: Tyres
I never drive over 70  but I have to have tyres on fit for 168mph

I'll have a look when i go out the car :)

Re: Tyres
if its a small commuting car just fit what u can afford on but put new tyres on steer axel and remoulds on rear axel. no piont putting pilot power sports on a bloody 106.
now i only fit F1 eagles to the scoob and at £130 a tyre they aint cheap but the work escort gets cheapos on, in fact i put 2 tyres on today for £15 each job done |
Re: Tyres
Ossywarrior,
firstly, school run cars IMHO carry much more valuable cargo than a bullion truck, you tell me you will happily scrimp where it comes to the safety of your children? plus the difference in cost between cheapo brands and decent tyres on small cars isn't so much, on stuff like yours and mine it becomes a much greater differential. e.g. I can get a full set for mine from 250 quid or I can pay 250 quid a tyre. thats a big difference. Secondly, it is recommended to put new tyres on the rear of a front wheel drive car. the thinking and testing shows that the vast majority of people can deal with a front end starting to slide and will naturally ease off, however when the rear lets go it will generally spin the car. There are videos and tests done by many organisations ( IIRC 5th Gear did a big test on it)and if you ask a tyre fitter they will tell you they are recommended to put new on teh back too. I personally would have agreed with you and for experienced drivers with experience of skid pans training etc maybe you can argue a case but general testing with general people suggests otherwise. |
Re: Tyres
Event mobile tyres (Tyres | Car tyres | Cheap tyres | 4x4 tyres | Run flat tyres) are doing the KUMHO KH16, 205/45R16 V rating, £51.40 fitted and balanced each.
I have used them several times both for my Coupe, Dunlop Sp sports and Jills Volvo, Continental Sport Contact 2's Never found a better deal anywhere. As said, get the best you can afford. |
Re: Tyres
I used Ossy Tyres over at Ossy Mills, part worn Mitch pilots fitted for £25.00 last time i was there.
Okay there part worn, but they are still a £155 tyre for £25.00. I know a few people who use them and have never had a problem, i had them fitted to my Merc a few years back and they gripped perfectly. When you get into the realms of £600 per tyre then its time to cry openly when you get a puncture!!. |

I asked him "When you buy a second hand car do you instantly go out and buy 4 new tyres for it". He replied no, so I reminded him he had bought and used 4 second hand tyres when he got the car ;):D |
Re: Tyres
I always go here
Ossy Tyres Tel: 01254 879700| Unit 2e, Moscow Mill, Moscow Mill St, Oswaldtwistle, Accrington, Lancashire BB5 0EP Great price , great services you can haggle a bit and go get a coffee in Ossy mills while you are waiting perfick and his budget tyres really last my last tyrews were £35 per corner cheap as chips |
Re: Tyres
Tyres that 'last' are hard compound which means they grip less.......... not really ideal on something whose sole job is to grip.
35 quid a corner is meaningless unless you say what size/rating they are |
Re: Tyres
It amazes me that something as important as your tyre, the only thing you have connecting you to the road, people buy as cheap as possible.
Further to entwisi, Volvo 850 T5 Estate, Jill's Car, Tyres Continental Sport Contact 2, Size 205/50ZR16 Price £403.86 last set of 4 I bought. Very good value for money, considering that the most precious person in the world to me, drives the car. Would have likes the P Zero's but the Volvo Eats them. We get about 20,000 Miles out of the Conti's. BMW 318is Coupe, my car, Tyres Dunlop SP Sport 2000E, Size 225/50ZR16 Price £407.97 Last set of 4 I bought. Original fit by BMW. Good tyre, lasts 30,000 Miles. Cheap tyres, well for Jills the cheapest are around £60 each and mine the same, but I value our lives more than that. There is a good site here about tyres. Re: Tyres
sufficient grip?????
You can NEVER have too much when a kid runs out and you are hitting those brakes hoping you will stop in time........................... One thing that Motorcycles have above cars is amazingly grippy tyres, the advances in tyres on bikes over teh last 10-15 years is amazing. OK, they don't last long ~ 6K is long for a front tyre, 4K for a rear but boy do they grip like the proverbial poo to a blanket. |
