Global Conference Centre, Oswaldtwistle
- Live Music from local bands and DJs plus fundraising activity including great raffles

Question is - where is this place? I'm thinking its the new place just off Rhyddings St, used to be shop fitters garage then SG Aluminium had it for a while.
Is it or isn't it

this used to be a church/.what in the world is it now?what does it do for the community except make money(for who?,) party, promote alcohol in the bar(we have enough pubs) and sometimes upset it's neighbours with the noise.how then can it be called a church?i think it gives Christianity a bad name for those who know what really goes on there.

It depends on what you think a Church is.

I think a Church is a place or worship. So it is a Church. It also has a conference centre, youth club and coffee bar as well.

It probably takes more kids of the street at night/weekend than all the other Churches in Ossy put together.

There is no such thing as "enough pubs" There is more than enough going on to give christianity a bad name ... case in point: Bishop Raymond Lahey of the diocese of Antigonish getting caught by Canada Customs for having child pornography on his laptop.

Re: Global Conference Centre, Oswaldtwistle

To the people who run this flat-screened, sport showing, drinking den, the person who just ranted like a mad woman in your 'religious' centre, upset because she views Oswaldtwistle's War Memorial as her father's grave, he being killed in Normandy aged twenty two, four months before she was born, and very upset and angered because of your large advertising hoarding, hiding the actual memorial, on ground owned and paid for by the people of the town....she was my mum.

I suggest, if you know what's good for you, you remove your advertisment sign from the War Memoria pronto, or suffer further consequences.

My mum will make Jesus overturning the tables in the temple look like a teddy bear's picnic, if you don't. Trust me.

Besides being totally disrespectful, you have no legal right to have it there.

I'm angry my mum, and others will be upset by this, but I'm also proud for standing up for what's right. Which incidentally isn't the reception she got from the so called Christians, who didn't think she had the right to go in there and make her feelings known.

Can you elucidate, Rindy? Are you saying that some clowns have stuck an advertising hoarding bang in front of Ossy WM?

Yes they have, and were rude and unhelpful when she went in to tell them they have no right to put it there.

By the way, if your sign's damaged, as a result of it being thrown over, please fell free to attempt legal action.

My mum will happily take you on.

;)

Right at the base of the memorial, hiding what's written on there, and the flowers and poppies.

I don't think anyone would complain if you just went over there and ripped it down, providing of course, you then take the said rubbish and deposit it in the front door of this 'Global Conference Centre'.

She pulled it down, it's on the floor..

I suspect if she ever sees it there again she'll be off to get herself better tools, for her next assualt on it.

Re: Global Conference Centre, Oswaldtwistle

I've just been past the War Memorial and didn't notice it - presumably because she'd already taken it down by then.

I haven't been in Global since it was taken over by another church. I had misgivings about the motives of the new owner and felt that it was too money orientated.

I think it should be deposited up the rear end of the guy who put it there. Way to go Garinda's mom:mosher:

What needs to be said has already been amply elucidated by Garinda so I'm not jumping on the bandwagon just to try and look good.

It certainly wouldn't have gone down well in Rishton and there wouldn't have been any question of leaving it on our memorial for more than a few hours.

I rather think Garindas mother was a bit more 'proactive' than your local voters, instead of waiting a "few hours" I think the 'Lady' with a Capital L (from whats been posted earlier) took immediate action , and kudos to her.

Re: Global Conference Centre, Oswaldtwistle

There was something seriously bugging me last night when I read this and about 3am this morning I suddenly awoke, remembering. It's this:

Desecration of War Memorials Bill

I'm pretty sure the Queen has not signed off on this yet because the bill was put on ice due to the election. I may be wrong. If it is now law then there should be a full police investigation and the character(s) who did this should be sent down for 6 months ( not enough, in my humble opinion).

I'll probably get into bother for mentioning it on here.

My mum would only resort to speaking to the press, and making a fuss, if she ever saw it there again, which hopefully it won't, now various things have been set in motion, thanks to the assistance of some people who've read this thread.

Re: Global Conference Centre, Oswaldtwistle

I'd like to stress again just how important my mum, and many other people, view our war memorials.

Growing up without a dad, the War Memorial in Oswaldtwistle was seen as her dad's grave. The only place she felt she could be close to the the father who although he was excited about her birth, never got the chance to see her. My Nan could never talk about him much, even to his two grandsons, my brother and myself, even decades after, as she still found it too raw.

I'm proud of my mum's actions yesterday.

She'd have done the same thing if she'd seen an advertisment plonked on anyone else's grave, up the church yard.

I think I've said before that I can still remember your Nan laying a wreath on remembrance Sunday at the War Memorial with tears in her eyes, unfortunately there are people who are prepared to ride rough shod over other peoples feelings, the sad thing being they don't even realise they're doing it:(

Blimey if my Nan had still been alive, they'd be picking teeth up off the floor of the Global Centre.

Hopefully this matter will now be resolved, and won't happen again.

I'd like to thank Claytonender, Cllr. Joan Smith, for involving herself in the matter, and offering her advice and help.

Also to one of my own councillors, Peter Britcliffe, who was on to it before I contacted him.

The power of Accy Web.

On behalf of myself, my mother, and everyone else, for whom the War Memorial is a very special place of rememberance, thank you.

I too am glad your mum has sorted this out and stuck up for herself and her family:D. Good on her for that:D. I have family names on that memorial and think it's awful that people don't have enough respect to not put their advertising boards up in front of it. What the hell were they thinking?:eek:
Well done Garinda's mum :D:D:D
