Most have worked all of their life and its ridiculous some have to choose between eating and heating. We should look after our elderly in this country. The government should shame whatever party.

That doesnt really matter .. there was a problem a few years ago ... my mum was interviewed for bbc northwest ... in rising bridge one side of the road got cold weather payments .. the other side of the road didnt .. all due to where the weather station was where they took the temperatures from .. one side was in the lake district the other was at winter hill i think it was ..

Since the Conservatives started denationalizing public utilities, such as gas, electricity, and coal in the early eighties, and the main focus of those companies is now their shareholder's profits, that is never going to happen in a million years.

The cold weather payments, and the way same are applied are pathetic!!

The payment should not be means tested, if you have paid your contributions etc, then you should receive all the payments. It should not be applied to only people who receive benefits.

It's the old, old story in this country, spend it, and still receive assistance, although I do agree with the old people having help, but not the people who have resisted employment and thus have very little income, but can still find money for cig's and beer.

I totally agree Tony even though I DO get these payments, if your elderly you still feel the cold irrespective of circumstances

I think that the Severely Disabled should also receive the Winter Heating Allowance as well as people over 60.

I fully agree with needy cases receiving help, it's simply the ones who have never "earned their corn" but always have their hands out ready to pick up owt for nowt.

Re: cold weather payments

I agree, i'm not advocating yet more money for the Work Shy, just a more caring, beneficial service for those who genuinely cant, and who suffer during winter months.

My lad is in his 20's, is Severely Brain Injured, cant walk and is Wheelchair bound, and only has the use of one hand. During this current spell of bad weather he has only been able to leave the house once in the last 3 weeks, he lives on a cul de sac which has been impassable, and even if he got past that then most pavements have not been gritted so are impossible for an adult in a wheelchair.

Effectively house bound and with the heating and lighting on all day, yet he doesn't receive a penny in Winter Heating Allowance, which kicks in automatically for older people at 60.

Best Regards - Taggy
