Can Anybody Recommend......?

A value for money touch screen phone for my daughter's 11th birthday?
We've had a look at numerous phones....she can't decide and I don't know which would be the best.
Also wondering about which network to get it on for the best benefits for her.

The phone would have to be black or blue.... £100 or less and it would be topped up £10 a month

If anyone knows of any great deals that I have missed seeing then I'd be very grateful for your input.

I don't know if this is any use, I just got an offer through from Virgin

Pay monthly contract mobile phones - Virgin Mobile

Obviously not pay as you go but might be an alternative?

:)

Can't help on the phone front sorry but recommend going with O2, they have some good deals. Top-up certain amounts and get free texts and phone calls to O2 phones. I top up £15 a month and nearly all my calls and texts are free:)

Nor me, that's why I'm sticking to my 'billy no mates', be ignored as you go type 'phone and spending the rest in the pub.

Share your top choice

Have a look at this, the LG POP seems to be all the rage with the young `uns....and i think most networks have good deals on them, a touchscreen phone for less than 100 quid, looks a pretty good deal to me. Also if you buy it online through Quidco you get 12 quid cashback......

Thanks... I'll have a look. We saw the pop one in the shop the other day

Sam had a Cookie and liked it.

Rhonda had the LG Viewty and it was rubbish. The battery would not last a full day. Unplugged in the morning and it was dying by 6pm. Battery was swapped the the whole phone but it was still rubbish. Changed it for a Samsung Tocco which is a nice touch phone.

i'd go with whichever network you are on Michelle, then if she or you get free minutes to the same network at least you can keep in touch with her

Re: Can Anybody Recommend......?

I think all Orange customers get a `Magic Number` so you can get free Orange to Orange calls for the nominated number.....and you can add another one every 6 months:D

I'll do that when she decides if she is keeping her number the same

Does the nominated number have to be an orange number?

Re: Can Anybody Recommend......?

Well all this phone talk reminded me to phone 3

My contract ends on 9th April 2010 and I said I was looking at a phone with another network as they dont do it.

They offered me to reduce my £24 a month to £15 and increase what I get free to

300 minutes any network
1Gb internet download
Unlimited text - which is really 3000 per month
Unlimited 3 to 3 calls - which is really 2000 minutes per month

Free Skype
Free MSN

That starts 12th March then after April 9th I am one a rolling 30 day sim only contract so I can easily decide if I want to upgrade my N95 and go onto another 18 month contract or just stay as I am for a bit.

So I am in effect on the £15 texter plan but with 300 minutes instead of the 75.

Thanks Michelle for mentioning phones, you are a little love :D

How can they be if you're topping up 15 quid a month ??

I agree with Tealeaf but if you want to spend your brass have look here.

Cheap Pay as you go Mobile Phones & a Free SIM - Tesco Mobile

Tesco Mobile uses the o2 network so coverage is good.

Re: Can Anybody Recommend......?

Oops I was so excited reducing my bill I forgot to say

Have at look at the 3 deals for pay as you go - you get 300 free texts if you top up £10, free MSN and free skype to skype calls.

I use skype on my 3 phone to talk to my Dad on his laptop when he is over in Tenerife for nothing.

Re: Can Anybody Recommend......?

I got a Samsung Genio on the Virgin deal and got the daughter a Toco lite, both really nice phones, both touch screen, had to get the daughter set up on pay as you go on my direct debit, working out very economical though, and the 2 phones combined cost me less that £20 to buy.

Re: Can Anybody Recommend......?

do not get one of those cheap iphone look alike phones off ebay , they do allow you to use 2 sim cards simutainiously but they are very cheaply built, you cant get games or apps for them apart from a small handfull that are in chineese only , also the camera dosnt work well either its very poor quality about 2mb but looks like poop

no ones suggested one yet but if one does get suggested avoid it like the plague.

AccyLass 15-02-2010 21:53

Re: Can Anybody Recommend......?

I have no intentions at all of buying one off Ebay, but thanks

Ok I'll give you that one I am paying but getting unlimited texts and calls to O2 numbers helps a lot. I very rarely use my landline as most of my contacts are on O2 so subsequently I am saving on that bill, probably more than the fifteen pounds top up so I am quids in:)
